Word processor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A word processor (also more formally known as a document preparation system) is a computer application used for the production (including composition, editing, formatting, and possibly printing) of any sort of viewable or printed material.
With the rise of personal computers, and in particular the IBM PC and PC compatibles, software-based word processors running on general-purpose commodity hardware gradually displaced dedicated word processors, and the term came to refer to software rather than hardware.
The word processor has become a central component of the office suite and is increasingly only available in this form, rather than as a standalone program.

Information Processor Encyclopedia Article, Information, History and Biography @ ArtisticNudity.com
An object may be considered an information processor if it receives information from another object and in some manner changes the information before transmitting it.
Any time the properties of an object change a process has occurred meaning that a processor of some kind is at work.
An information processor or information processing system, as its name suggests, is a system (be it electrical, mechanical or biological) which takes information (a sequence of enumerated states) in one form and processes (transforms) it into another form, e.g.

 basics about computer hardware
An external bus is a bus outside of the processor (but inside the computer), moving data, addresses, and other information between major components (including cards) inside the computer.
Many processors have special floating point registers (and some processors have general purpose registers that can be used for either integer or floating point arithmetic).
Some processors separate integer data and address registers, while other processors have general purpose registers that can be used for both data and address purposes.

However, moving core processor functionality into software meant moving it into main memory, and this move put Transmeta's designs on the wrong side of the ever-widening latency gap between the execution units and RAM.
The end result is that there is this massive amount of control logic that now sits between the processor's cache and its execution core, just as therei s a massive amount of latency that sits between the cache and main memory.
Like TM, IBM started out with the intention of increasing microprocessor performance, but unlike TM, simplifying processor control logic wasn't the magic ingredient that would make this happen.
