Times New Roman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A version of Times New Roman was produced by Monotype for Microsoft, and distributed with every copy of Microsoft Windows since version 3.1.
Times New Roman is a serif typeface commissioned by The Times (London) newspaper in 1931 and designed by Stanley Morison together with Starling Burgess and Victor Lardent.
The differences between Times Roman and Times New Roman PS are mostly a trademark issue.

 The Roman Army
Marius also is given credit for changing the construction of the legion, abolishing the three lines and the velites and instead founding the entire legion of soldiers of equal armour and weaponry.
Roman society was governed by class and so in effect there was three separate army careers possible, that of the common soldier in the ranks, that of the equestrians and that for those destined for command, the senatorial class.
If the Roman army had throughout most of the third and fourth century been undergoing a transition, gradually increasing the number of cavalry, then the end of this period of gradual change was brought about by a dreadful disaster.

 Times (New) Roman and...
Never before, and probably never again, would the precise placement of pixels in the serifs or 's' curves etc. of Times Roman occupy the attention of so many engineers and computer scientists.
"Times Roman" is the name used by Linotype, and the name they registered as a trademark for the design in the U.S. "Times New Roman" was and still is the name used by The Monotype Corporation.
The story of "The Times New Roman" can be found in Stanley Morison's A Tally of Types, published by Cambridge University Press, with additional, though not quite the same, versions in Nicolas Barker's biography of Stanley Morison, and in James Moran's biography of SM.

Roman Numerals, Roman Numeration System, by Gérard P. Michon, has an advanced discussion of how lanreg numbers were represented in the Roman system.
Greek Numeration, by Alan J. Cain, illustrates how Roman numeration is parallel in many ways to the Attic Greek notation.
The Hindu-Arabic numeration system was known in Europe by 1000, but at first it didn't make much of a dent in the use of Roman numerals.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Roman Catholic
"What," he asks, "is the object of adding 'Roman'?
The term "Romish Catholic" or "Roman Catholic" undoubtedly originated with the Protestant divines who shared this feeling and who were unwilling to concede the name Catholic to their opponents without qualification.
A study of these and other early examples in their context shows plainly enough that the qualification "Romish Catholic" or "Roman Catholic" was introduced by Protestant divines who highly resented the Roman claim to any monopoly of the term Catholic.

Mac OS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The goal of this project was to create a version of Mac OS that would run on Intel-compatible x86 personal computers.
This has been obsolete since Mac OS X, as Mac OS X only runs software built for the PowerPC; however, a similar emulation technology is seen in Rosetta, which allows an Intel-based Macintosh to emulate software built for PowerPC-based Macintoshes.
Although it is capable of emulating a PowerPC processor, it can only emulate up to Mac OS 9.0.4 because it does not emulate a memory management unit.

 Roman Numerals
The Roman numbering system also lives on in our languages, which still use Latin word roots to express numerical ideas.
The big differences between Roman and Arabic numerals (the ones we use today) are that Romans didn't have a symbol for zero, and that numeral placement within a number can sometimes indicate subtraction rather than addition.
The Romans were active in trade and commerce, and from the time of learning to write they needed a way to indicate numbers.

As the old type used by the newspaper had been called "Times Old Roman," Morison's revision became "Times New Roman." The Times of London debuted the new typeface in October 1932, and after one year the design was released for commercial sale.
The Linotype version, called simply "Times," was optimized for line-casting technology, though the differences in the basic design are subtle.
And because it is a standard font on most computers and digital printers, it has become universally familiar as the office workhorse.
