.NET Framework - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Microsoft.NET Framework, more commonly known as simply the.NET Framework, is a software development platform created by Microsoft.
The Mono framework provides a partial implementation of the CLI and some parts of the.NET framework for Linux and Solaris.
While the original model of.NET was that of a general foundation (.NET framework) with three primary pillars (ASP.NET, Windows, and Web Services), the model for.NET 2.0 is that of a foundation for Microsoft's next generation platform known as WinFX, which is the unification of Microsoft development technologies into one programming model.

A framework is a group of classes that form the foundation for a subset of functionality in an application.
Frameworks and tools authored by The Object Guy are currently being used in numerous commercial applications, by independent software consultants, and by custom application developers.

 .NET Framework
The Framework calculates the required number of bytes, allocates the storage, and then passes it back to a program that can only use the storage as the type of data structure that the program declared it to be when it was allocated.
This is important because the Framework Assembly object tied to the App Domain serves as an anchor for all the objects created by that App Domain from data types and classes defined in the Assembly.
There is an intent to release compact versions of the Framework for Pocket PC handheld computers and embedded systems, but by the time that market develops the average toaster oven may have a few hundred megabytes of memory.

The Microsoft.NET Framework class library is an object-oriented collection of reusable and extendable types (classes, interfaces, structures, and enumerated types).
Unlike in previous frameworks, classes in the.NET Framework can be interoperable, meaning that a C# class could inherit from a VB.NET class, allowing developers from different backgrounds to work seamlessly together.
