9PAC is a data processing system developed collaboratively by Charles Bachman, Russ McGee, and members of the Data Processing Committee of the IBM user group SHARE for use originally on IBM 704 and 709 mainframe computers.
The 9PAC system built upon the generalized report generation routines (programs) incorporated into the 702 File Maintenance and Report Generator System developed by Bill McGee on an IBM 702 computer at the General Electric Hanford Atomic Products Operation in Richland, Washington.
Bachman in particular has credited 9PAC and its 702 predecessor as a key source of inspiration for the Integrated Data Store (IDS) data management system, which he developed in the Phoenix-based General Electric Computer Department between 1961 and 1964.
