Abugida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Historically, abugidas appear to have evolved from abjads (vowelless alphabets).
The obvious contrast is with syllabaries, which have one distinct symbol per possible syllable, and the signs for each syllable have no systematic graphic similarity.
Without rendering support you may see irregular vowel positioning and a lack of conjuncts.

 Abugida - Wikipedia
In many abugidas the modification is the addition of a vowel sign, but other possibilities are imaginable (and used), such as rotation of the basic sign, addition of diacritical marks, and so on.
The obvious contrast is with syllabaries, which have one distinct symbol per possible syllable, and the signs for each syllable have no systematic graphic similarity.
A term coined by Peter T. Daniels for a script where the basic signs denote consonants with an inherent vowel and where consistent modifications of the basic sign indicate other following vowels than the inherent one.

 Abugida - KutjaraWiki
Abugidas can be considered a combination of the features of abjads and syllabaries.
An abugida or alphasyllabary is a writing system where each grapheme represents a syllable with a consonant and an inherent vowel.
To make a syllable with a vowel other than the inherent one, a diacritic—called a matra—is used.

In cases where a consonant is included in the coda (end position of the syllable), the inherent vowel of that consonant has to be killed.
UKT: Abugida (or alphasyllabary) is a term coined by Peter T. Daniels, a scholar of writing systems and the co-editor of the book The Worlds' Writing Systems.

 Alphabet - Open Encyclopedia
The word alphabet itself is derived from alpha and beta, the first two symbols of the Greek alphabet.
Among alphabets, one may distinguish abjads, which only record consonants; alphabets which record consonants and vowels separately, called simply alphabets and first developed by the Greeks; and abugidas, in which the vowels are indicated by systematic modification of the form of the consonants.
Each language may establish certain general rules that govern the association between letters and phonemes, but, depending on the language, these rules may or may not be consistently followed.

However, since we are so used to the idea of alphabet and letters, we do not appreciate that there can be other forms of writing, which are better or at least as effective as the alphabet in recording a language.
A hall-mark of an abugida is the presence of an inherent vowel which is the same in each and every consonantal letter -- at least within one language.
Whereas, the IPA claims that its characters and its diacritics can record the phonemes of the human speech, the abugida of a language does not make such a claim.

Abecedaria: The Tamil Syllabary chez Diderot
Tamil is encoded much like the other Indic scripts, as an abugida, where the primary form of the consonant is considered to be the form which includes the inherent a vowel.
The other Indic scripts are represented in both Taylor and Diderot by forms that are now described as abugida forms.
It should not be surprising that there have been requests to reencode Tamil, this time as either an alphabet or a syllabary but not an abugida.

Conversely, the vowel marks of the Ethiopic abugida have been so completely assimilated into their consonants that the system is learned as a syllabary rather than as a segmental script.
The Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics are also an abugida, as a glyph stands for a consonant and is rotated to represent the vowel, rather than each consonant-vowel combination being represented by a separate glyph, as in a true syllabary.
In later Pahlavi papyri, up to half of the remaining graphic distinctions were lost, and the script could no longer be read as a sequence of letters at all, but had to be learned as word symbols – that is, as logograms like Egyptian demotic.

 VMs: Voynichese as an Abugida
Abugida refers to scripts in which consonant symbols C indicate inherently a particular CV syllable, usually Ca.
The consonant symbols are combined with or modified by additional marks to indicate vowels other than the default, or to indicate the absence of a vowel, maybe the presence of other modifiers, like nasalization, e.g., C, possibly representing CVN, and so on.
The distinction between abugida and abjad may correspond fairly well to historical development - syllabary > abjad > abugida, with true alphabets falling somewhere in that sequence - but logically, perhaps one should say cryptographically, it is somewhat moot, turning on whether the C-grade or some CV-grade is the unmarked term in a series.

Teddy began his acquaintance with the large public with his ‘first’ release (at least in chronological release, if not creation) called Abugida (the beginning of literacy, in Amharic language, the ‘abc’ of love).
In a way, this latest release of Teddy “Yasstesseriyal” (it heals) is hence the result of all these emotions and expectations, and in a sense, it must have overburdened the young artist.
For a while, it appeared that Teddy was dragged with the producer into an involuntary row, more characteristic of lawyers and business tycoons, (many, if not all, of his fans embraced his cause).
