Amiga demos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Amiga demos are demos created for the Commodore Amiga home computer.
The demo scene spearheaded development in multimedia programming techniques for the Amiga, such that it was de rigeur for the latest visual tricks, soundtrackers and 3D algorithms from the demo scene to end up being used in computer game development.
The Amiga was the undisputed leader of mainstream multimedia computing in the late 1980s and early 1990s, though it was soon overtaken by PC architecture.

 Hexapedia - Amiga
Amiga is the name of a range of home/personal computers using the Motorola 68000 processor family, whose development started in 1982.
In 1992 Commodore released their last Amiga computer models, the A1200 and the A4000: both of them featured the new AGA chipset and the third release of AmigaOS.
History The first Amiga computer, Amiga 1000 (or A1000 for short) was released in 1985 by Commodore, who marketed it both as their intended successor to the Commodore 64 and as their competitor against the Atari ST range.

Demoscene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The demoscene is a computer subculture that came to prominence during the rise of the 16/32-bit micros (the Atari ST and the Amiga), but demos first appeared during the 8-bit era on computers such as the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.
These were not initially called demos but rather letter, message, etc. Quite a few of the young talents that spent their time "coding" demos and thus gaining in-depth experience programming computer graphics later ended up working in the games industry, whose products they had initially cracked.
Since any given computer platform before the PC age meant every computer of a given line had identical capabilities, a comparison between demos on earlier platforms was directly possible.

 Amiga Forever - Amiga Demos
To better appreciate a demo keep in mind that everything you see and hear in a demo is generated in real time by computer code (there is no pre-rendered animation), and that the code itself is relatively compact (which is part of the challenge).
The demos are stored in the "Demos" directory, inside "Amiga Files" when installed on a Windows system (or inside "Emulation", on the Amiga Forever distribution medium, or when installed on non-Windows systems).
Thanks to its multimedia capabilities, the Amiga computer was immediately embraced by the demoscene, and in turn it gave prominence to the scene and to its culture.

 3.07: Demo or Die!
Demos are the last bastion of passionate, crazed, enthusiast-only programming, crafted purely for the hell of it by inspired teenagers working entirely in their spare time.
Much of the demo scene's impetus came from the intense rivalry between manufacturers of two of the most popular 16-bit home computers of the time, the Commodore Amiga and the Atari 520ST.
There are separate classes for different machines: chiefly the Amiga and its new archrival, the PC.

An important distinction between demos and movies or videos is that the visual effects seen in demos are real-time calculated, instead of rendered in beforehand like conventional computer animations (where often hours of computer time are spent to calculate just one frame).
Many old demo scene are nowadays involved in making computer or video games (including the author of this document).
The best examples of this are the Amiga demos by Spaceballs, "State of the Art" and "9 Fingers" which featured motion-captured video sequences combined with various graphical effects.

Demos are very fun to watch, because they seemingly do things that aren't possible on the machine they were programmed on.
One possible reason for this is that the multitasking nature of the OS means that the CPU cannot be dedicated to any one critical task--for example, the inner loop of a texture-mapping engine, or vertical-retrace interrupts, or anything else requiring exclusive use of the CPU.
First of all, the problem may be your operating system or environment.
