AmigaOS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On the first Amiga model, the A1000, this was loaded from disk, although eventually the Kickstart was embedded in a ROM chip inside the computer.
Workbench is the native graphical shell for the Amiga computer.
Each Kickstart version is tied to a particular version of the Amiga's operating system software, so users should only boot Workbench 2.0 on a machine with a 2.0 Kickstart ROM.

Amiga Forever - Amiga Emulation and Operating System
The Amiga emulation and OS components implement Amiga technologies which have been licensed by the Amiga companies for use in Amiga Forever.
The Amiga OS files included on Amiga Forever are compatible with various ports of UAE and Fellow, most of which are included on Amiga Forever itself.
It is only the combination of full hardware emulation and original Amiga OS that makes it possible to achieve maximum compatibility with thousands of existing Classic Amiga software applications.

 OLD-COMPUTERS.COM : The Museum
The Commodore Amiga 500 was the low-end successor of the Amiga 1000 and the predecessor of the Amiga 1200.
The Amiga 500 was followed by the Amiga 500+.
The Amiga 500+ had the same characteristics as the Amiga 500 except it had 1MB of Chip RAM and used the AmigaOS 2.04, this version of Amiga OS needed 512 KB of ROM.

Amiga SDK for either Linux or Windows to be able to help with the port to the AmigaDE.
Amiga recently announced that they would port the Amiga OS to the PowerPC for Amiga OS 4.0, to be released in late summer this year, with later releases to follow, leading up to 5.0, which will include memory protection and the full implementation of the AmigaDE.
The AmigaDE is what Amiga wants people to program to, and with good reason: programs written for the Amiga DE run hosted through Amiga OS 4.0, as well as Windows and Linux, both Linux-based and Windows CE-based PDA devices.

Dear Amiga Inc., Could I Make a Few Suggestions? - OSNews.com
He is a Mac and Amiga fan, and would like to see Amiga become more of a factor in the computer industry.
Although the Amiga OS still has advantages, it is getting harder for Amiga users to justify staying with the Amiga.
Amiga, Inc needs to remember that the existing Amiga OS is what has kept the user base for this long, not the promise of a new future OS.

UAE - The UAE Amiga Emulator
Cloanto Software has licensed the Amiga operating system for distribution together with Amiga emulations.
The first Amiga "emulation" is a hoax program for MSDOS that displays the "hand holding a disk" picture used in old Amiga ROMs and tortures the floppy stepper motor a bit.
Officially licensed Amiga ROM and OS files are available both for download and on CD-ROM as part of Cloanto's Amiga Forever package, which includes Kickstart files up to v3.1 (the latest version).

UK-based Eyetech will also be allowed to carry on bundling the Amiga OS with its Amiga hardware.
Amiga launch Amiga DE players for Linux and Windows back in 2001 and in the interim got the technology incorporated into Sharp's Zaurus Linux PDA and Nokia's Mediamaster digital TV receivers.
The upshot is that KMOS gets the rights, title and source code for the Amiga OS, from the first version through to the latest, Amiga OS 4, which Amiga has been touting for the last three years or so but has yet to ship.

 The History of the Amiga
The new update also suggested that Amiga software would now run "on top" of many operating systems, indicating that the Amiga OE had morphed into a standard Linux distribution and that AmigaObjects were the only revolutionary technology to come from Amiga.
Problems relating to Amiga emulation and piracy were also confronted with the licensing of the Amiga OS and ROMs by Cloanto.
This was soon followed by the launch of a standalone Amiga DE Player in October, allowing Windows/Linux users to play Amiga DE games using their existing operating system.

EA, DPaint and Amiga OS 4 Petition
Now that Amiga Inc is truly back, the hardware is here, and the OS is on its way, we are beginning to see the fruits of Amiga’s labours and it is time that these developers returned.
The EA, DPaint and Amiga OS 4 Petition to Electronic Arts was created by and written by Edward Dore.
For this we need the right tools, one of the best graphics editors ever created, especially in terms of efficiency, was Electronic Art’s DPaint, and so, we the undersigned, want to see Electronic Arts once again both developing and publishing titles for the Amiga platform starting with an update to DPaint.

Mick estimated the speed to be similar to an '040 classic Amiga (bear in mind this is without JIT 68K emulator and with the OS in an alpha state) and was certainly very usable.
The kernel image can be considered a bit like the Kickstart ROMs on a classic Amiga.
Another innovation is the antialiased font support that is implemented in such a way that most existing applications also get antialiased text in their interfaces.

Amiga Inc. is also working on developing mobile software for its "Amiga Anywhere" initiative.
"OS 4.0 is almost complete, and the Hyperion team is working very hard to get everything ready," wrote Bill McEwen, the president of Amiga Inc., in a memo to developers today.
Most of the interest in the Amiga is from people visiting the CompAmiga.com website, rather than foot traffic into his store, he said.

"Since Apple announced that OS X will be available for Intel processors, countless people across the web have speculated as to how this move will change things.
I'm going to take aim here at three of the more popular myths: the Mac OS on Intel will spawn a legion of clones, Macs will get cheaper, and Apple might also team with Intel rival Advanced Micro Devices.
The Intel deal aims to lure those buying computers from Dell -- or Gateway, or Acer, or even iPod partner Hewlett-Packard -- into trying a Mac.

OSNews.com - Exploring the Future of Computing
A new storage layer is currently in development for TriangleOS, the VFDBS, which aims at replacing the VFS in order to change the way data is stored and handled through the entire OS (all data is centralised, support for meta-data, journaling for all filesystems, etc.).
Researchers at HP Labs are working on a solution to this problem using the Principle of Least Authority, or POLA -- "limiting the rights of each program to only the ones needed for the job the user wants done"
The User Interface also needs to change to enable the user to quickly browse through all the information.
