Ironically, quite a few of the young talents that spent their time " (Act of writing in code or cipher) coding" demos and thus gaining in-depth experience programming (The pictorial representation and manipulation of data by a computer) computer graphics later ended up working in the games industry, whose products they had initially cracked.
The main aim of a demo is to show off superior (Creating a sequence of instructions to enable the computer to do something) programming, artistic and musical skills over other (Click link for more info and facts about demo groups) demo groups.

 Computer Demos - The Story So Far
An important distinction between demos and movies or videos is that the visual effects seen in demos are real-time calculated, instead of rendered in beforehand like conventional computer animations (where often hours of computer time are spent to calculate just one frame).
Many old demo scene are nowadays involved in making computer or video games (including the author of this document).
The original ideology of the demo programmers is to build everything from scratch (instead of using existing programming libraries) and push the hardware to its limits and beyond it.

Atari computers were supported by "big" software companies let's say to 1989.
I think the absolute no.1 is a demo Vengeance by Excellent from 1997, if you can, download an emulator and check this one, it's a masterpiece of software (you need only a standard Atari with 128 kB of memory!!!).
In this time most of groups move to Amiga or PC (since hw was cheap in our lands, already) and ppl from C64/ZX and rest of Atari users regarded this as the end of 8 bit Atari.

The Commodore 64 demos for the Commodore 64 (C64) were, as far as is known, the first real demos produced on any home computer.

Aren't the Atari demos accessible from the net as it is?
If you just have one 2MB ROM image you want to burn then you'd split it into 4 files (for a cart with four 8-bit chips) or 2 files (for a cart with two 16-bit chips) using Atari's ROMSPLIT program.
Otherwise they could be burned on a CD and have to be loaded from a menu into the JAGs RAM - I know that they can't be run from CD directly, but judgin by the size of most of the demos, it probalby should be possible to store them into the JAGs memory?

 Excellence In Art - Productions: Demos - Atari
This is my personal favourite, partly because it has features I still haven't seen in any other demo on any other machine (the Interactivity piece, for example).
From the beginning, it was supposed to be a collection of all the modules I'd made on the Atari, but problems with the mod-encryption-algorithm and lack of patience eventually made me release it as it was...
In the credit-part I used Karl-Anders Øygaard's ProTracker replay, which uses Timer A and D to play, which is no good for demos.
