Blowfish (cipher) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Schneier designed Blowfish as a general-purpose algorithm, intended as a replacement for the aging DES and free of the problems associated with other algorithms.
Blowfish's key schedule starts by initializing the P-array and S-boxes with values derived from the hexadecimal digits of pi, which contain no obvious pattern.
In one application, it is actually a benefit: the password-hashing method used in OpenBSD uses an algorithm derived from Blowfish that makes use of the slow key schedule; the idea is that the extra computational effort required gives protection against dictionary attacks.

 Block Ciphers
Blowfish, documented here is another unpatented Feistel algorithm using a variable length key.
CAST-128, documented in RFC 2144, is a 64-bit, 16 round SPN block cipher using a 128 bit key.
The most secure approach would be to design a cipher from scratch and keep both the algorithm and the keys secret.

Napster may be generally reviled in the record industry -- RIAA FAQ on Napster: Rusty Harmon, who represents Hootie the Blowfish, said, 'This type of website makes us sick' -- but I was curious if record labels are using the software as a marketing tool, to gauge how po...
Each fish is modeled after a real fish, such as an angelfish or a blowfish, and the programmers added five special fish that occasionally get created to spice things up.
