In case of footnotes with CJK characters which are split across pages, you have to close the CJK environment on the page on which the particular footnote ends (probably preceded by a \newpage command).
Starting with CJK version 3.0 it's also possible to use different encodings in preprocessed mode, thus this environment is almost obsolete.
Note that CJK expects two hexadecimal digits as a running number in the font name (as defined in UTF8.enc) instead of two decimal digits.

The first RLIN CJK terminals were dedicated, custom-made terminals attached to a separate minicomputer or "cluster controller." By 1987 RLG had introduced a replacement, the MultiScript Workstation -- actually a software program that could make an AT-class personal computer function as an RLIN CJK terminal.
Since the Library of Congress, Columbia, Princeton, and Stanford created those first CJK records, the number of CJK records in the RLIN database has grown to 1,201,421 (as of 6/30/93), representing the holdings of 37 RLIN libraries as well as OCLC CJK libraries.
In 1986 an average of 3,130 original RLIN CJK book records were entered per month, of which 54% were created by the Library of Congress.

OCLC CJK Users Group Annual Meeting 1998
CJK libraries were encouraged to work with the local library system office to make the migration plan as early as possible to ensure accessibility.
Kotaka explained to the audience that after the CJK software distribution method had been adjusted to be part of the OCLC Access Suite, it was no longer possible to track which library was using the software.
The OCLC CJK Users Group worked closely with OCLC with regard to the new pricing structure and software distribution of the CJK software.

OCLC CJK Users Group Annual Meeting 1996
The OCLC CJK RetroCon project was initiated by Andrew Wang in 1992.
The Character Input Code Enhancement Project will create updated CJK character database which would be compatible with the current 2.10 software.
Gary agreed with the suggestion and assured the group that the International Strategic Program is one of the three priorities of OCLC in the coming years.

CJK - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although CJK encodings have common character sets, the encodings often used to represent them have been developed separately by different East Asian governments and software companies, and are mutually incompatible.
The 16-bit fixed width encodings, such as Unicode up to and including version 2.0, are now deprecated due to the requirement that software in China support the GB18030 character set.
CJK character encodings should consist minimally of Han characters plus language-specific phonetic scripts such as pinyin, bopomofo, hiragana, katakana, and Hangul.

Features to support CJK CID-keyed in Ghostscript
CJK TrueType font often lack many non-popular glyphs and a few popular glyphs in Adobe CID.
Impatient users looking for step-by-step installation notes for CJK fonts should check gs-cjk documents at http://www.gyve.org/gs-cjk/supplement/.
As a result, a TrueType font (designed as screen font for window system) cannot be a perfect replacement for an Adobe PostScript font Refer CJKTTCID.htm for further particulars.

 cjk language computing
For a general description on the CJK input method, please go to Learn about CJK input methods.
English Win 98/Me/NT users, in order to display and input CJK on the browser, the easiest way to do it is to download and install the Microsoft Global Input Method Editors (IMEs) of the language(s) that you need (each language is a separate package).

 [Gs-devel] gs6.50-cjk M1 package is available
Since characters in usual CJK TrueType fonts are placed in order of Unicode or some other local encodings, we need to put the characters according to the usual ordering of CID-keyed fonts specified by Adobe such as Adobe-CNS1, Adobe-GB1, Adobe-Japan1, Adobe-Japan2 and Adobe-Korea1.
Support of CJK TrueType fonts is essential for many CJK people, since nice CJK TrueType font packages with various typefaces are available at reasonable prices, while CID-keyed fonts are rare and usually expensive.
The gs-cjk package is available at: ftp://ftp.gyve.org/pub/gs-cjk/M1/gs6.50-cjk-M1-R1.tar.gz The gs-cjk package is a patch kit for gs6.50, which provides ability to load CJK TrueType fonts as (fake) Type 2 CID-keyed fonts.

 Viewing CJK Characters
Unionway Another software company which has fonts and software for reading and writing CJK available at a cost.
Each CJK locale may have several encodings, which is a historical techological development.
Each CJK locale has its own number of characters, and ways of tabulating the characters, known as an 'encoding'.

 CJK Support Notes
Different input methods are also required to input CJK files.
UnionWay has all CJK fonts, the ability to add more character sets, has several popular input methods, supports intelligent mode, and are compatible to MS Office and several graphics programs.
NJWIN is the best CJK viewing system, it autodetects between different character sets, thus allows user to view files that uses multiple encodings.

 Outsourcing CJK Cataloging: Implementation Plan
In addition, the plan proposed in this paper avoids the use of minimal level cataloging for materials in the CJK backlog.
I suggest we hire a student 10 hours per week to help with searching, writing call numbers on books, barcoding books, inputting vernacular fields, and fastcatting.
By the end of the backlog reduction project, CTS estimates it will have produced about 19,000 CUL records at minimal (less-than-core) level, without LC subject headings.

[I18n-sig] thinking of CJK codec, some questions
The example I gave above has to be seen in the light of using the generic mapping codec -- which probably is not very much use in a multi-byte encoding world since it currently only supports 1-1 mappings.
Fast encoders/decoder should be done in C, the whole class business in Python.
I'd suggest going Andy's way for the CJK codecs...
