 Computer Graphics - Clipping
The input polygon is clipped against one edge and any points that are kept are passed on as input to the next stage of the pipeline.
Polygons can be clipped against each edge of the window one at a time.
Sutherland and Hodgman's polygon-clipping algorithm uses a divide-and-conquer strategy: It solves a series of simple and identical problems that, when combined, solve the overall problem.

 Clipping, Masking and Compositing - SVG 1.1 - 20030114
A clipping path can be thought of as a mask wherein those pixels outside the clipping path are black with an alpha value of zero and those pixels inside the clipping path are white with an alpha value of one (with the possible exception of anti-aliasing along the edge of the silhouette).
mask is that clipping paths are hard masks (i.e., the silhouette consists of either fully opaque pixels or fully transparent pixels, with the possible exception of anti-aliasing along the edge of the silhouette) whereas masks consist of an image where each pixel value indicates the degree of transparency vs. opacity.
As a result of the above, the default behavior of SVG user agents is to establish a clipping path to the bounds of the initial viewport and to establish a new clipping path for each

The Liang-Barsky is optimized for clipping to an upright rectangular clip window (the Cyrus-Beck algorithms is similar but clips to a more general convex polygon).
The Cohen-Sutherland was one of, if not, the first clipping algorithm to be implemented in hardware.
The Sutherland-Hodgman polygon clipping algorithm will then be covered and the Weiler-Atherton algorithm, time permitting.

 Page 1- Clipping Paths
A clipping path is a special object that creates a frame or window on an object.
In this example, we have used text as a clipping path to create the effect of text characters filled with photos or other graphics.
Also, you can apply a clipping path to one or more object at the same time.

Avoiding clipping: OASYS PCI gain structure
To avoid clipping, reduce the input level, or reduce the amount of resonance.
The result is that some human discretion is necessary, but that the overall output level is hotter and S/N is better.
This is handy for boosting low-level signals, but can also cause clipping with higher input levels.

Clipping can be a lengthy process, so enough time must be set-aside for the task and a helper arranged.

 Texture Based Clipping Demo
In its simplest form, used for clipping to a single plane, a 2x1 texture is used, consisting of one opaque and one transparent pixel.
On cards that do not provide the needed support for user-defined clipping planes, this allows hardware vertex processing to be used, rather than having to drop back to the used of software vertex processing.
Up to six clipping planes can be defined simultaneously when using software vertex processing, so support of this feature through emulation is guaranteed.

Using Embedded Clipping Paths In QuarkXPress
Prior to version 4.0 the only way a clipping path could be used is if the image was saved as an EPS file with a clipping path.
In the example below, the clipping path is visible as a green outline around the image.
Second, Quark can create a clipping path whether or not one is embedded within the image.

We then consider each of the vertices defining the primitive under consideration.

Clipping causes trouble in computer game graphics because the extremely abrupt cut caused by it results in a detraction from the realism of a game.

You may want to choose None from the Clipping path pop-up menu when you save the image from Adobe Photoshop, so you can specify which path to use as the clipping path when you import the image into QuarkXPress.
Any changes you make to this path will be based on the preview and may not precisely match the actual EPS file that is downloaded to the PostScript printer.

 The Death of Dynamic Range
In this instance, seven samples (or "digital snapshots" of the sound) in a row are shoved up against the limit, and they have nowhere to go, so they just form a flat line -- hence, our old friend known as "clipping".
Unlike the variability of analog recording techniques, this limit cannot be exceeded.
This represents the extreme of the most conservative form of CD mastering; where only a single peak, occuring only in a single track, reaches the maximum level, and everything else on the disc is below it.

Clipping generally occurs when an amplifier is playing at a high level and it is asked to output a large amplitude waveform ("tall" wave with lots of power).
In order avoid clipping, do not play a sound system at excessively loud levels and make sure the amplifiers being used are large enough to recreate the sound levels in the given space.

Java 3D Supplemental Documentation - Starfire Research
In simple terms this means that for a 1024x768 screen all clipping distances are actually seven times further than what you set them at.
Many users of Java 3D have noticed that the recommended Back to Front Clipping ratio of 1000 to 1 or 3000 to 1 results is a big practical limitation when modeling a virtual world.
This makes the scaling from virtual units to physical meters dependent upon the display resolution, so the clip planes will move with respect to the virtual world depending upon the screen resolution.

During traversal, if the graPHIGS API encounters a Set Modeling Clipping Volume 2 or 3 structure element and the current composite modeling transformation matrix is singular, then the graPHIGS API sets the effective clipping volume to the null volume and clips all subsequent primitives.
During traversal, if the workstation does not support the specified modeling clipping operator, if the specified number of clipping half-spaces exceeds the maximum supported by the workstation, or if any half-space is found to be degenerate, then the graPHIGS API ignores this structure element.
