Internet Application Protocol Collation Registry (DRAFT!!!)
Unless otherwise specified by the collation or application protocol, a NULL string (as opposed to an empty string) is equal only to another NULL string, a NULL string is not a substring of any other string, and a NULL string sorts to a position after all non-NULL strings, but before strings which generate errors.
The canonicalization algorithm associated with this collation is the output of step 3 of the UCAv9 algorithm (described in section 4.3 of the UCA specification).
Collations must be deterministic, i.e.given a collation with a specific name, and any two fixed input strings, the result MUST be the same for the same operation.

 ICU Userguide
The ICU collation implementation is designed to be fast, have a small memory footprint and be highly customizable.
The algorithms have been designed and reviewed by experts in multilingual collation, and therefore are robust and comprehensive.
This can make it difficult for collation to be a fast operation or require collation to use significant memory or disk resources.

 UTS #10: Unicode Collation Algorithm
The collation algorithm requires that Hangul Syllables be decomposed.
Collation elements can be incrementally generated as needed from two strings, and compared with an algorithm that produces the same results as sort keys would have.
Collation is the general term for the process and function of determining the sorting order of strings of characters.

Localizable Collation: Different collation objects associated with various locales handle the differences required when sorting text strings for different languages.
Because compare()'s algorithm is complex, it is faster to sort long lists of words by retrieving sort keys or collation keys with getSortKey().

A user-defined function for culturally correct collation in DB2 UDB
Whenever a UDF is introduced into a query, it can hurt the performance of the query.
Therefore, do not change collation names as the query is executing.
(For some unusual combinations of collations and input values this may even not be enough space.) Many collations, however, produce sort keys that are much shorter than this, so some experimentation with the collations and data to be used will be useful in determining the size of the generated column.

A Guide to Using Myanmar Unicode: Myanmar Sorting (Collation)
The collation algorithm and the Myanmar NLP Lab my-MM locale for linux can be downloaded here.
The algorithm is complicated because each part can be composed of several characters and the final has a higher sorting precedence than the vowel.
As a result the algorithm implemented here has combined the vowel and final components into one (very large) set of collation elements to get the desired sort order.

FIX: Code Point Comparison Semantics for SQL_Latin1_General_Cp850_BIN Collation
When you compare two Unicode strings by using the SQL_Latin1_General_Cp850_BIN collation, SQL Server is designed to compare the first character of each string, and then continue to perform a binary comparison of the remainder of the strings in a byte-by-byte manner.
For example, in this new collation, character U-0140 is greater than U-0041, even though the in-memory representation of them is 0x4001 and 0x4100.
This can cause Unicode data to be sorted in a manner that you might not expect, if you are unfamiliar with these semantics.

Although you need to be aware of the collation problems that might occur if your SQL Server 2000 machine contains databases and columns with varying collations.

This allows applications to be developed using only Unicode, which avoids all issues with code page conversions.
