Command line interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A command line interface or CLI is a method of interacting with a computer via a text terminal.
In some computing environments, such as the Oberon or Smalltalk user interface, most of the text which appears on the screen may be used for giving commands.
CLIs originated when teletype machines were connected to computers in the 1950s.

 HESSI Imaging Overview
The primary benefit of the command line interface is that it allows a level of flexibility that may not always be present with the GUI.
Many users may find it desireable to use the command line interface and the GUI to accomplish some tasks (such as creating simulated data on the command line and then analyzing the data in the GUI).
It should be noted that the hessi_image command and the object oriented syntax are not interchangeable in the sense that the user can not use one syntax and then immediately switch to the other and expect all the proper internal variables to be defined.

Accordingly, there are four ways to execute the BatchKi numerical engine from the command line (or from within other programs, such as the CGI interface).
The fifth command line parameter in this syntax allows redirection of the output files into an arbitrary output directory (for example, in the ``HTML'' tree of the server's file system, as opposed to the ``CGI-BIN'' tree).
This particular command line syntax allows to perform the analysis of many BatchKi formatted input files at once, while all analyses utilize a single initialization file (in this example TEST.ini).
