 DECstation 3100
Based on ULTRIX and the MIPS processor, the DECstation 3100 was the first RISC workstation built by DIGITAL and, at the time, the world's fastest UNIX workstation.

 DECStation Linux installation HOWTO
In order to do that, you'll have to configure NFS, export a part of your filesystem to the DECStation (that means, give the DECStation permission to access that part of the server's filesystem).
Under some conditions (depending on the software version of your server), you might need static arp entries to get the decstations booting:
The only partition format that we can create with DECStation linux at the moment is a DOS-type partition table.

Booting the DECstation via a network using bootp and tftp
At the Linux DECstation site there is a 'Hardware Maintenance Guide' for Personal DECstation 5000's in postscript format available.
The "3/rz0/vmunix -a" portion of the string can also be stored in the 'boot' environment variable to allow auto-booting.
On the other hand if the DECstation boots automatic then the server doesn't need to know the machines hardware address.

The Digital DECstation 2100/3100 is one of the first commercially available RISC-Architecture based machines, released in 1989.
In fact, in 1989, the DECstation 3100 topped in the Dhrystone benchmark, beating the SparcStation 1 by a bit, and blasting the 386DX/33 away.

Development is an ongoing thing (ehhh...) Linux for DECstations is further developed, keep your eyes open at
people porting Linux to the MIPS platform, Linux runs on DECstations, with first attempts to run Linux on DECstations started in 1995, these days Debian Linux runs out of the box.

 ULTRIX Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
All DS5000 series machines set the memory stride from the first memory array module (this is true of the Personal DECstation and the DS5000/1xx series and not just the DS5000/2xx machines).
If you like Modula-2, you might be interested in Modula-3, a successor language to Modula-2 developed at Digital's Systems Research Center and the (now defunct) Olivetti Research Center.

Ultrix is a computer operating system of the Unix -family by Digital Equipment Corporation to run on their workstations.
Ultrix runs on DECstation workstations, which are built atop MIPS R2000 and R3000 family of RISC processors, and on DEC VAX -machines.

 DECstation Linux HOWTO
Installing Linux on a DECstation isn't very easy.
Anyway, here's a short description (you'll need a working *nix box with bootp, tftp and nfs servers):
Ok, what do you need for your machine?

 [No title]
The other members of the DECstation family, besides the x86 based ones, should be considered as VAXen with the CPU replaced by a MIPS CPU.

 Digital DECstation 5000/200
The DECstation 5000/200 was the first R3000 based machine in the DECstation line of computers.
For the Personal DECstation the maximum ammount of memorory is 40 MB, and for the DECstation 5000/100 it is 128 MB (compared to the 480 MB in the 200 series).
It was preceeded by the R2000 based DECstation 2100/3100 machines.

Hmm, speaking of 2.4.19, I tried to apply kernel-patch-2.4.19-mips agains plain 2.4.19 source, and it claims everything is either already applied, or that it is a reversed patch.
