Topic: Database Source Name

 ASP Samples
DSNs come in 2 flavours, a server DSN, where the data source is defined using the ODBC icon in Control Panel, and a file DSN where the defination is contained in a file.
Usually it is easier to use a file DSN (a simple text file, with a.DSN extension) that holds all the information that a server DSN would store in the registry.
You may notice that the file DSN above doesn't specify the database name, the database path, the user name or the user password.

 Managing an Apply Process
The instantiation SCN for a database object controls which LCRs that contain changes to the database object are ignored by an apply process and which LCRs are applied by an apply process.
If a change is already applied at a destination database, then it is discarded by the apply process, but you may not want to use the network and computer resources required to resend the changes to multiple destination databases.
If the commit SCN of an LCR for a database object from a source database is less than or equal to the instantiation SCN for that database object at a destination database, then the apply process at the destination database discards the LCR.

Neowin.net - Firebird vs Firebird, is it War?
A database is NOT the same thing as a browser.[/i] The net is not as simple as it may seem.
The Phoenix Team did NOT know that Firebird database supporters would object to one more open source project sharing its name, in the light that there were already open source software projects existing which also had the name Firebird.
Honestly, I hope they choose another name, since I don't really think Firebird is a good name for a browsing software, I wouldn't mind it if it was for a peice of hardware.

Slashdot Firebird Name Debate Enters a New Stage
Firebird (the database project) was using the name prior to the use of the name by Mozilla.
The Mozilla project may or may not be infringing on the database project's trademark.
Also, considering the Firebird Database is an open source project, I doubt they would be able/willing to bring up a lawsuit for the name anyhow.
