DQDB: Distributed Queue Dual Bus in IEEE 802.6
The data rate fluctuates due to many hosts sharing a dual bus as well as the location of a single host in relation to the frame generator, but there are schemes to compensate for this problem making DQDB function reliably and fairly for all hosts.

 Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS)
Contention for the bus by multiple devices requires the use of the DQDB distributed queuing algorithm, which makes implementing a multi-CPE configuration more complicated than implementing a single-CPE configuration.
Such operation is distinguished from the operation of a DQDB protocol in any other environment (for example, between carrier equipment within the SMDS PDN).
A—By using a distributed queuing algorithm, which makes implementing a multi-CPE configuration much more complicated than implementing a single-CPE configuration.

In addition, the authors prove the scheme's correctness, design an algorithm to solve its related problem of virtual circuit identifier type selection and discuss its implementation details.
To solve this problem, the authors propose a new pre-arbitrated slot access scheme, distributed slot reuse with silence detection, which can greatly improve utilization by taking advantage of two features in voice communications, silence detection and source/destination locality.
To cope with this situation, the authors investigate the issue of how to support wireless voice communications efficiently in personal communication networks with distributed queue dual bus networks as backbones.
