Topic: End-user

 "Watch What I Do"
Contemporary computer users are "end users", meaning that they are at the end of the process of computer programming, far removed from the programmer.
Instead, the user should be able to instruct the computer to "Watch what I do", and the computer should create the program that corresponds to the user's actions.
That is, 1) users have to learn the arcane syntax and vocabulary conventions of the language, and 2) they have to learn the standard computer science concepts of variables, loops and conditionals.

Amazon.com: A Small Matter of Programming: Perspectives on End User Computing: Books: Bonnie A. Nardi
Futuristic scenarios of end user computing often reveal the computer as an intelligent "agent" capable of performing actions inferred from a simple statement such as we might issue to a human assistant.
When this happens, end user computing problems will be shoved to the forefront instead of idling in the background as it is today.
The core of Nardi's work is its anthropological approach to computing, observing, and studying the "natives" (or end users) as they use spreadsheets and CAD programs.

 Interaction Design for End-User Security
Because we rely on the user interface to communicate intentions to the system, the interface for controlling security properties must be part of the trusted computing base.

DBAzine.com: The End User Component of Database Administration
Users can actually put up with this level of response if they do not have high volumes of processing to do or they are not highly motivated to complete their work and move on to more productive items.
The user is experiencing delayed response or no response at all, and they feel they are trapped at the computer terminal, waiting for its response.
Remember that users will always assume that the database is the cause of performance degradation since that is where their data lives.

What is end user? - A Word Definition From the Webopedia Computer Dictionary
The term is useful because it distinguishes two classes of users, users who require a bug -free and finished product (end users), and users who may use the same product for development purposes.
The term end user usually implies an individual with a relatively low level of computer expertise.
The final or ultimate user of a computer system.

 End User
Typically, when an end user executes a numerical application, end user assumes that the output accuracy is sufficient to meet his needs.
For example, the end user can say, ``I need three digits of accuracy in my answer.'' However, the end user should not be allowed to say, ``I want you to use the `double precision' data type because on this computer I think it will be good enough.
Note that the acknowledgment of possible error in the input is a concession made by the end user that helps the application programmer.

Again, many users for whom a known quality information resource would be available can be excluded because they don't have interactive capability.

Thus, one fundamental challenge for the coming years is to develop environments that allow people without particular background in programming to develop their own applications, with the ultimate aim of empowering people to flexibly employ advanced information and communication technologies within the future environments of ambient intelligence.
While some substantial progress has been made in improving the way users can access interactive software systems, developing applications that effectively support users' goals still requires considerable expertise in programming that cannot be expected from most citizens.
The interactive richness of new devices has created the potential to overcome the traditional separation between end users and software developers.

Su (1991) suggests that quantitative data relating to the length of a search and number of documents retrieved can be usefully combined with qualitative data relating to the satisfaction of the user with the search.

 end user - a Whatis.com definition
In information technology, the term end user is used to distinguish the person for whom a hardware or software product is designed from the developers, installers, and servicers of the product.
The term end user thus distinguishes the user for which the product is designed from other users who are making the product possible for the end user.
The "end" part of the term probably derives from the fact that most information technologies involve a chain of interconnected product components at the end of which is the "user." Frequently, complex products require the involvement of other-than-end users such as installers, administrators, and system operators.
