Topic: Exploit (computer science)

Computer - encyclopedia article about Computer.
With the exception of quantum computers, the implementation technology of a computer is not as important for classification purposes as the features that the machine implements.
A computer is one that computes, where com- (with, together) joins putare (Latin root, to reckon, to think, or section as in to compare pieces), so by definition, computer science (Latin: scientia, knowledge) is the accumulated knowledge through scientific methodology by computation or by the use of the computer.
The discipline which studies the theory, design, and application of computers is called computer science Computer science (academically, CS, CSC or compsci) encompasses a variety of topics that relates to computation, like abstract analysis of algorithms, formal grammars, and subjects such as programming languages, program design, software and computer hardware.

Exploit (computer security) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An exploit is a common term in the computer security community to refer to a piece of software that takes advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability, leading to privilege escalation or denial of service on a computer system.
Many exploits are designed to provide root-level access to a computer system.
Often, when an exploit is published, the vulnerability is fixed and the exploit becomes obsolete for newer versions of the software.

Currently, theoretical exploration of quantum computation is both motivating and clarifying the requirements for the possible construction of quantum computers.
However, even as computer memories become cheaper and multiprocessor machines become larger and faster, our desire for larger and more sophisticated astronomical simulations outstrips them and new algorithms and data structures appear to be required, ones that can be tuned to exploit the computer architecture that is to be used for the simulation.
Substantiating the notion of computational intractability is thus the province of theory.

Heap overflow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Microsoft JPEG GDI+ vulnerability MS04-028 is a recent example of the danger a heap overflow can represent to a computer user.
Heap overflows are sometimes used by crackers to exploit badly written software.
In most environments, this allows the attacker full control over the program execution.

 Computer Viruses [encyclopedia]
The host is another computer program, often a computer operating system, which then infects the applications that are transferred to other computers.
In computer science a virus is a piece of program code that, like a biological virus, makes copies of itself and spreads by attaching itself to a host, often damaging the host in the process.
A small percentage of viruses are the result of computer code that operates in an unexpected manner, but the majority of viruses are programs deliberately written to interfere with, or damage, other programs or computer systems.
