figlet fonts are stored in separate files, which can be identified by the suffix ``.flf''.
A figlet font file begins with a header.
While figlet tries to be forgiving of errors, and should (hopefully) never actually crash, using an improperly-formatted file with figlet will produce unpredictable output.

FIGlet is a computer program, available for many operating systems, for making large letters out of ordinary ASCII text characters
Answers the questions "What is FIGlet?" "Why does FIGlet exist?" and "Where do I get FIGlet?" This is the main site for all FIGlet activities, including standard and contributed fonts, as well as program binaries for several platforms.
Occasionally, people will post fonts here or announce new FIGlet on-line services and software ports, but beware, without moderation, there is a lot of garbage to sort through.

 FIGlet fonts
JavE is a far more sophisticated program for producing text art; a FIGletiser is just one of its many tools.
These samples are better viewed in Netscape 7 than IE 5 or Opera 7, because the latter browsers ignore the font size information in the samples.

Figlet is currently in version 2.1, available for Unix, DOS, Amiga, and Atari ST. There are a number of examples of Figlet fonts at the end of the ASCII Art Resources file.

Figlet is a popular program for creating fancy ASCII text (you can see my figlet server in action at http://www.p-smith.co.uk/figlet.php3).
We open a pipe to the figlet binary, passing it the text string to display.
This has the effect of running figlet with an empty string (""), which simply prints out nothing and then pipes the passwd file into an email and sends it to me. Experienced shell users will already know that the semicolon allows us to place two commands on one line.

Alternatively, pipe a file or the output of another command through FIGlet, or put your input right on the command line as an argument.
I think I always vaguely pictured computer nerds sitting around for days on end painfully positioning pipes and underscores to create these obscure pieces of internet art.

 OpenVMS ask the wizard - FIGlet or Banner for OpenVMS?
On VMS, is there an equivalent to Unix commands Figlet or Banner, for generating large Ascii letters to file or screen.
Java versions of FIGlet are available, as well.

 The Answer Gang 70: inetd and figlet
The idea is to print out a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign in big block letters using the figlet utility.
It's something that's _supposed_ to do real-time interaction with the user.
[Don] When I try this telnetting from ssc.com to my test machine I get nothing, and using this figlet_wrapper script instead of calling figlet directly fixes it for me.
