Imaging the planet around 51 Pegasi, however, is beyond the capability of current telescopes.
Draw a line between Alpha and Beta Pegasi, and halfway along lies 51 Pegasi, a mere degree or so to the west of the line.
What was so surprising about 51 Pegasi (and all of the other extrasolar planets discovered thus far)?

 85 Pegasi 3
(1931-93), 85 Pegasi was found to be a fairly close binary by noted double-star observer Sherburne Wesley Burnham (1838-1921) with the 18-inch refractor at Dearborn in 1878, who listed it in his catalogue as BU 733.
Deficient in heavy elements, the system also a high space velocity and appears to be relatively old at around 9.3 +/- 0.5 billion years old based on these and other considerations (Fernandes et al, 2002; Perrin et al, 1977; and Wallerstein and Helper, 1959).
Two nearby faint stars in the system's field are believed to be optical companions, as they do not share the system's large proper motion.

Many of these investigations have only turned up more questions, as was in the case of reported signals from 70 Virginis, Cygnus and now EQ Pegasi.

The stars Epsilon Pegasi and Theta Pegasi belong to the hind legs, with Epsilon Pegasi being of the third magnitude.
Pegasus' brightest stars (of the second magnitude) are Alpha Pegasi and Beta Pegasi, which together with Gamma Pegasi (third magnitude) form the triangular wing of the horse.
Eta Pegasi and Pi Pegasi form the head: Pi Pegasi is the snout, and Eta Pegasi has magnitude three.

Although once i get the beta up and running, I'll make a little "map maker" program, so people can start making their own systems for the game.
Which should save me from having to make everything, instead, people could make deneb, epsilon pegasi, gamma draconis.etc
OK, i have been working and I've come across a new handy.dll to help with all the multiplayer stuff.

 ALPHERATZ
Since its three principal stars have almost the same brightness, Beyer simply lettered them Alpha, Beta, and Gamma in order, Alpha and Beta tied for the lead in apparent magnitude.
(The other star is Elnath, Beta Tauri, which links Taurus to Auriga and is also called Gamma Aurigae.) If you draw a line through Alpheratz and Algenib, Gamma Pegasi to the south, it will pass just to the east of the vernal equinox in Pisces.
Mid-second magnitude Apheratz, the Alpha star, connects Andromeda (the Lady) with Pegasus, the Flying Horse that carried Perseus to Andromeda's rescue.

 Pegasus
Alpha, Beta and Gamma Pegasi, together with Alpha Andromedae, form the well known Great Square of Pegasus, a very useful means of orientation in the sky.
The horse's back consists of Alpha, Beta and Gamma Pegasi, his head is decorated by Zeta, Theta and Epsilon Pegasi.
Its diameter is estimated at 90 to 110 diameters of the Sun, its distance is 199 light-years.

How to Tell Time by the Stars
Gamma Draconis is halfway along the great-circle route from the pole to the horizon, so its elevation above the northwestern horizon is less than 3/4ths of the elevation of the (since the sine of 45 degrees is 0.7).
Gamma Draconis) is a horizontal line 40 degrees above the horizon.
This is marked by Beta Cassiopeiae (Caph) which is the star at the bright end of the W, the end with the acute angle.

Typical mean errors of the radial velocities from photographic spectra are 3 km/s for single lines and 0.6 km/s for all measured metal lines, and 0.6 km/s for the Si-doublet 6347/6371 A measured on the CCD spectra.
Formulae are given to transform the V and V-B of the Walraven system to V and B-V of the Johnson UBV system.
For the best studied star, gamma CrB, time series include data from single nights allowing for a time resolution down to 5 minutes, as well as groups of such series including several days, partly taken at two observing sites of different longitude.

 Pegasus
Pegasus is part of the Zodiacal constellation of Aquarius (?) where the first known planet, 51 Pegasi, outside of our own was discovered in 1995.
As the discovery has been made in the "Age of Aquarius" this is considered, by some, to be a most significant and spiritual finding.
Trismegistic teachings tell that the white horse symbolizes purified passion, which, like other Poseidonic signs, relates to our conscious efforts to gain some control over the often turgid waters of the deep unconscious.

 Pegasus, The Winged Horse
The distinctive Great Square of Pegasus is marked by the stars Alpha Pegasi (or Markab), Beta Pegasi (or Scheat), Gamma Pegasi (or Algenib), and Alpha Andromedae (Alpheratz) and so isn’t officially completely within the constellation of Pegasus.
Kappa was discovered to be a binary star by S. Burnham in 1880, using the 36-inch refractor on Mt. Hamilton.
There are several smaller, fainter galaxies to the east of NGC 7331 that may be associated with it in some way; they may be traveling through space together.

Delta (Alpheratz), the brightest, actually belongs to Andromeda as Alpha Andromedae, leaving Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Pegasi (Markab, Scheat, and Algenib) ranking 3-2-4 in the constellation and 2-1-3 in the Square, Algenib the faintest of them.
Though the brightest star of Pegasus is Enif, the Epsilon star, the stars of the Great Square are of such obvious note that Bayer gave them Alpha through Delta.

 Pegasus
Its characteristic feature is a big square, whose angles are shown by stars of second and third magnitude, although only three of them belong to Pegasus: the fourth one is the first star of Andromeda and once it was also called delta Pegasi.
The brightest star of the constellation, however, is not a member of the big square, but it is in the southern part: it is Enif, an orange supergiant, approximately 500 light-years away.
The constellation of Pegasus is the seventh one of the whole sky in order of extension, but it doesn't contain any particularly bright stars.

 Alpha Pegasi
Now if you move to the west-southwest the same distance from delta Pegasi to alpha you'll encounter the brightest star in Pegasus, epsilon (Enif).
The 2.5 magnitude star forms the southwest corner of the Great Square of Pegasus, easiest to find with the naked eye.
This Great Square is formed by delta Pegasi (Alpheratz) to the northeast, Scheat (beta Pegasi) to the northwest, Markab to the southwest, and Algenib (gamma Pegasi) to the southeast.

Trivia - Alpha Andromedae (Alpheraz) was also known as Delta Pegasi until Pegasus lost that celestial tug of war...
Not totally devoid of bright objects, Pegasus contains three Caldwells and one Messier.   While these objects are visible in fairly small scopes (especially M15), you're really in luck if you've already succumbed to that dreaded disease of both the mind and the pocket book - aperture fever and purchased a scope 8 inches or larger.

 SKYWATCHER'S DIARY: March 1995
The variable star Mira, brightening toward its April maximum, is 18 degrees left of the moon.
At nightfall the moon is well up in W. Second-magnitude Hamal, or Alpha in Aries the Ram, shines 15 degrees to the moon's upper right, with 3rd-mag Beta Ari 4 degrees below it, and 4th-mag Gamma Ari 1.5 degrees lower left of Beta.
At least three corner stars of the Great Square of Pegasus can be seen to the right of the moon: Begin with 3rd-magnitude Gamma Pegasi 11 degrees to the moon's right, then find 2nd-mag Alpha Andromedae 14 degrees upper right of Gamma Peg, and 2nd-mag Beta Peg 14 degrees lower right of Alpha And.
