I still use Nautilus for files that are just in my home directory or if I want to browse some thumbnails, but for the task of actually copying/moving/mass deleting Gentoo is superior in every way.
The two-paned file manager view has been the best way to manage files for many years now.

Note that if a file manager like Nautilus is used to read the directory of the mounted firewire (or scsi) device, the unmount command won't work, because it will be considered "busy".

The 'object view' will only be used for the Nautilus windows opening from the desktop (like when clicking on your Home dir, which typically doesn't contain deep directory structures.) And the 'navigational view' will still exist for all other file managing.
That takes cojones, my friend, particuliarly on a project that is as ubiquitous on a user's desktop as Nautilus is. The new spatial view is _way_ faster than the current Nautilus, and the existing "Explorer" style view in there to cater to people who prefer it.

This first produced some errors but then went on to install and set up the various packages, closing with the note that some errors were encountered.

If it worked okay in the past then it is not likely a problem with the X drivers -though I had a similar problem in the past when Savage 4 chips first came out.
