 Google Desktop Search Launched
Google has released a new Google Desktop Search tool today that allows people to scan their computers for information in the same way they use Google to search the web.
Google Desktop Search is only for Windows XP or Windows 2000 users -- no news on a Mac version from Google, sorry.
You'll also be shown a count in the reverse bar under the search box indicating the total matches, the number of email matches, file matches, chat matches and web history matches.

 Google Search Engine
Google is was based at Stanford University until its move in 1999 to its own.com domain.
Google caches those pages, and when it serves up the page out of its cache, the only way some of those images are going to get loaded is if you have absolute references.
Here are some generic approaches to Google based on our testing and educated guessing that may help your sites visibility on Google.

NodeWorks - Encyclopedia: Google (search engine)
Google introduced advertisements in 2000, which were sold by the keyword so that they would be more relevant to the end user, and the ads were text-based in order to keep page design uncluttered and fast-loading.
The Google search engine began as a research project in early 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Stanford University graduate students who developed the theory that a search engine based on a mathematical analysis of the relationships between websites would produce better results than the basic techniques then in use.
Google is a search engine owned by Google Inc. whose mission statement is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." The largest search engine on the web, Google receives over 200 million queries each day through its various services.

The Anatomy of a Search Engine
Google is designed to avoid disk seeks whenever possible, and this has had a considerable influence on the design of the data structures.
With the increasing number of users on the web, and automated systems which query search engines, it is likely that top search engines will handle hundreds of millions of queries per day by the year 2000.
Google's data structures are optimized so that a large document collection can be crawled, indexed, and searched with little cost.

Search Engine News, on Web searching and search engine optimization
If each user has his or her own search engine algorithm, it will be much harder to develop a winning search engine optimization formula.
The search engine seems to be working at the time of writing, although our OS X Safari and Firefox browsers have problems reading some of the pages some of the time.
One of the reasons why Google's engineers are so inventive: is that 20 per cent of their time is reserved for them to work on their own projects.

Link spam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Redirecting links prevent Google from factoring the link in its PageRank algorithm for that site making the spam ineffective.
An increased page rank means the spammer's commercial site would be listed ahead of other sites for certain Google searches, increasing the number of potential visitors and paying customers.
would work as a link but not be picked up by Google.

MySQL Reference Manual :: 12.7 Full-Text Search Functions
It is also possible to perform a boolean search or a search with query expansion.
These search types are described in Section 12.7.1, “Boolean Full-Text Searches” and Section 12.7.2, “Full-Text Searches with Query Expansion”.
Results could be post-processed with your own ranking algorithm but it's kind of odd that you can't do a boolean search AND rank results in the query.

Google Genealogy Style - Google Search Tips for Genealogists
Stop words are small, common words that many search engines ignore, or don't stop for, when searching for documents that match your query.
For example, will is considered a stop word by Google, which can mess up your search results if you are searching for the will of a specific ancestor.
It is a special favorite among many of the genealogists I know, due to its ability to return relevant search results for genealogy and surname queries.
