 mprove: thesis: FLEX
FLEX and LEAP (the implementation language at Lincoln) share some properties – notably the ability to store and retrieve associations – and it will be interesting to notice the difference between the 256k words of fast memory on the TX-2 versus 4 to 8k smaller words on the FLEX machine.
The FLEX system consists of merged “hardware” and “software” that is optimized towards handling algorithmic operations in an interactive, man-machine dialog.
FLEX may also be extended by either modifying itself via the compiler-compiler contained in the language or a wholly new language may be created using the same tools.

 An Introduction to Ten15
Flex was designed to be an integrated program development environment, but a variant was deployed for at least one embedded application.
Flex was a capability architecture and operating system with a graphical user interface, unlike any other computer system I've ever heard of!
The Ten15 filestore was modelled on that of Flex, with a mostly non-overwriting structure, and object roots stored in presistent variables updated using two-phase commit algorithms from database theory, so that the filestore was never in an inconsistent state.

Macromedia Flash - encyclopedia article about Macromedia Flash.
Macromedia has been criticized for neglecting to optimize its products on the Mac OS X platform.
Macromedia also hired Middlesoft to create a freely-available developers' kit for the SWF file format versions 3 to 5.
Since Flash files do not depend on a truly open standard such as SVG, this reduces the incentive for non-commercial software to support the format, although there are several third party tools which utilize and generate the SWF file format and a large and vibrant open source community.
