Where an input is connected to multple ouputs, this is lest of a problem as the input port can simply be duplicated for each output.
A null connection mearly serves to associate an input with an output for display.
Configuration directives allow to associate an input port with one or more output ports using a null (i.e.

 JACK-AUDIO-CONNECTION-KIT: Porting JACK
JACK is written for a POSIX environment compliant with IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, ISO/IEC 9945:2003, including the POSIX Threads Extension (1003.1c-1995) and the Realtime and Realtime Threads feature groups.
JACK uses some low-level machine operations for thread-safe updates to shared memory.
The host is the system on which JACK will run.

Number of input and output ports to be used.
On some systems and configurations, it is necessary to make sure that JJack's native JACK client is allocated as early as possible, before program execution branches into child-threads.
Note: Using the JJackSystem wrapper this way is supposed to be a workaround.

Open Source Awards 2004: Paul Davis for JACK
“JACK shows how Open Source Software touches all areas of computer use, in this case high-end audio, and at the same time is open.
The JACK project is an outgrowth of another of Paul Davis’ open source projects, Ardour, which is a Digital Audio Workstation project.
This is important because people need to realize that OSS isn't some 'computer-genius-only' software, but is cresting and all areas of software will be touched by it."

also, i think it is because of the version of jack i am using, i had to modify the headers of spiral modular to get it to compile.
In my last tutorial, "Kernel support for MISC binaries" and Wine i showed how to run Windows (and other) binaries on Linux by just typing their names.
But right now there is also another way available, but you should only do it on workstations without external services and you should be the only user on it.

 Jack Audio Connection Kit 0.90.0
Support for Jack inputs was added, enabling a lot of interesting usage, including support for Mac OS X. An option to turn off the automatic reconnect feature was added.
Featuring a drum-machine-like interface, it is designed with real-time operation in mind: while playing, the pattern can be edited, the BPM rate modified, and new samples loaded.

This statement sets the base directory where MusE is to be installed to /usr, enables suid-install, and compiles MusE with JACK and softsynth support.
Alsaplayer is the simpler of the two programs we want to get working with Ardour so we'll start with it.
Now that MusE is JACK-enabled, using it and Ardour provides Linux with full-blown MIDI and digital audio workstation capability.

If no JACK clients were started, the lists initially only display the inputs and outputs of the sound card.
This is only possible if the respective application has a JACK interface.
JACK support has become a standard feature, so there are many applications that have the needed interface.

The update is needed to get the new ecasound to work correctly with jack (the jack code now gets the client PID when the client executes the 'activate' call, otherwise the wrong ecasound process was getting the realtime capabilities - it looks like the change has not affected other clients, as far as I know).
