 BTLB Online - Chapter 10
The KWrite menus and toolbar are standard and intuitive for users of GUI text editors from most other environments.
KMail, KDevelop, and KWrite are also part of the project.
A KWrite window, open to the main.c file from the Joe editor code tree, is shown in Figure 10-5.

Point and Click Linux: The complete desktop Linux migration kit
Although KWrite obviously works without any configuration, this is a good time to start learning how to configure software to work just the way we like it.
It is about as close as you can come, on a computer, to typing on a piece of paper with an old-fashioned typewriter -- or taking notes with a pad and pencil.
After you've mastered a few more Linux basics -- by the end of this book -- you'll be ready to customize your file system, along with almost everything else, to suit your taste rather than ours.

 Re: Kate and KWrite
KWrite is a wrapper around the part for simple editing (like notepad).
Kate is a wrapper around it that adds features to make it useful as a programmers' text editor, like having a built-in console and so on.
There's no need for a simple text editor to be able to dock other components all over the place, so KWrite doesn't have it, but that's useful in Kate's application domain.
http://dot.kde.org/1106424624/1106538604/1106555647/1106605817

 Noatun, Juk, Amarok, kedit, kwrite...
Kate is a multiple file with lots of features editor, while kwrite and kedit are just simple text editors.
My understanding was that KEdit will disappear as soon as the part that KWrite uses supports bi-directional text.
Kate and KWrite share the same code (Kate's).

 SnhWiki: Kate
The problem was that Kwrite would only edit one file at a time, and there was no way to really do any sort of project grouping.
The Kate project was started as a way to allow for simple project management inside Kwrite (actually, it's not really project managment per se, but it is file grouping which is all most people really need).
Similarily, projects written in non-C languages (like Perl) were handled tempermentally at best in KDevelop.

Chapter 8. The KWrite Text Editor
This creates a new file and, at the same time, opens a new KWrite window in which to start typing your text.
This chapter provides a brief overview of the main features of KWrite, introducing the main menus and tools.
You can now edit the file as usual.

I just tried to modify my sources.list file, but was surprised that I couldn't because the error "KDEinit could not launch Kwrite" popped up.
THe problem is that I can't modify a file if I can't open it.
I need to be able to edit text files.

Is there any problem to drop the KWrite stuff ?" The Kant project is attempting to develop a simple yet powerful code editing environment that includes aspects of MDI, project management and even an integrated console.
It was also agreed by the end of the thread that KWrite would remain in name so as to not create inconsistencies between minor versions of the desktop.
Falk Brettschneider wanted to know if multiple views of the same document were supported, while Martijn Klingens asked if syntax highlighting was configurable.
http://kt.planetmirror.com/kde/kde20010324_3.txt

Not just code -- for 4.0 please rethink apps too!
As far as I (and I would add any inexperienced user) can see at a first glance, Kate is Kwrite with MDI.
I can't really tell if video capability is needed on the media manager, but, with a decent media backend, it should be so simple to implement (since we already have visual effects) that it wouldn't hurt to add just to please ppl who find it useful.
But the other argument is: do we (or better: the KDE project) want that everybody speeks of "the Text Editor" (now: KWrite), "the Text Processor" (now: KWord), or "the File Renamer"?

LinuxQuestions.org - Customizing Mandrake? Please help... - where Linux users come for help
If your are just looking for a way to get to KWrite or any other text editor with "root" access from the desktop you might try what I did, it's not a file manager just KWrite.
If it's: "The document could not be saved, as it was not possible to write to file:/x/x Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disc space is available.", then most likely you are still in user mode and do not have root access.
Is there any way you can "double click" the file and open it in "Kwrite" with root priviledges so you can edit the file.

 The KWrite Handbook: Introduction
It is meant to be a programmers editor, and it could be considered as a partial alternative to more powerful editors such as XEmacs or Emacs.
It could be a programmer's editor best used in conjunction with kfm for source file browsing for different languages.
KWrite's main functionality feature is the colorized syntax assured for many programming languages: C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, Bash, Modula 2, HTML, Ada.

 Newbie Notes
For example, say you are in X-windows and want to edit a config file located at "/etc/configfile" using a GUI text editor like "kwrite", and you need to do it "as root".
I started by opening my kwrite text editor (still teething on emacs) and saving an empty text file to my default directory "~".
I wrote the shell script for this example to simplify the repetitive task of decompressing Gnomezip files.

The '..autocopy' patch fixes kwrite's copy and paste behaviour so it is similar to OPENSTEP or the Mac.
Copy the six KDevelop projects to the directories in the GNUstep source code tree as above.
You don't need to have KWrite to use KDevelop, but it's handy to have a separate text editor with the same language syntax highlighting as the IDE.

I like "vim" though because I can easily edit code right on the server without having to have a graphical environment running and without having to transfer files back and forth.
The learning curve for emacs isn't as steep as that of vim, in my opinion.
"kwrite" has syntax highlighting as well and is a good code editor.

The default assumption is to use the editor which comes with the operating system.
After investigation and discussion with others, it is our recommendation to modify the whfs_editor file to launch the KWRITE editor only when creating official user products within Riverpro, and the NEDIT editor for all other editing options.

Even KWrite's developer need not care where the requested files are coming from.
All this is completely transparent for users: They need not worry whether the data are being transported by FTP, SMB, or HTTP.
This design has several advantages: Applications (and their developers) don't have to wrestle with the details of the various protocols.
