If numerals âsixâ to âtenâ in Vietnamese are truly related to those in Chinese as it fits into the sound change patterns as enumerated above, we have the right to doubt the genuineness of the first five numbers being originated from Mon-Khmerb>, but they are just cognates evolved from the same source.
However, while acknowledging the resemblance of the counting numerals and a limited number of other words in Vietnamese and other Mon-Khmerb> languages we must recognize that those glosses of the Mon-Khmerb> languages are closer among themselves than with Vietnamese.
Numeral counting in Vietnamese from 1 to 5 are undeniably Mon-Khmerb> cognates because of their indisputable fact that there is a clear phonetic connection to those of Mon-Khmerb> languages.
