Kilobit (Kb) = 1024 bits (2 ^ 10) "binary kilobit"
Thus if your browser is showing that you are downloading a file at 176 KBps you would then multiply 176 times 8 which would translate to 1,408 Kbps.
Kbps = Kilobits (1024 bits) per second (binary)

Although the bit is the unit of the binary numerical system, the bits in the data communications are discrete impulses of the signal and were historically counted by using the decimal numerical system.
Certain sources define a kilobit as being 1024 bits.
For example, 28.8 kilobits a second (kbps) represent 28 800 bits per seconds.
