Topic: Layer

OSI model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The OSI reference model is a hierarchical structure of seven layers that defines the requirements for communications between two computers.
Typically, only the lower layers are implemented in hardware, with the higher layers being implemented in software.
The router operates at this layer -- sending data throughout the extended network and making the Internet possible, although there are layer 3 (or IP) switches.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model

 Layer
Default behavior for a layer is to be transparent.
This type of layer defining explicit positioning is also known as an 'out-of-flow' or 'positioned' layer.
This specifies the coordinate position of the top boundary position of the current layer in relation to a parent layer if present.

Cisco - Layer 3 Switching Demystified
It should be clear that Layer 3 switching doesn't represent a revolution in technology, but more of an optimization of Internet class routers for the campus intranet.
This paper shows that Layer 3 switching refers to a class of high-performance routers optimized for the campus LAN or intranet.
Dynamic routing protocol technology is used in Layer 3 switches and routers to populate these Layer 3 routing tables.

Transport layer Info - Encyclopedia WikiWhat.com
In computing, the transport layer is level four of the seven level OSI model.
The amount of memory on a computer is limited, and without flow control a larger computer might flood a computer with so much information that it can't hold it all before dealing with it.
Of course, error free is impossible, but it is possible to substantially reduce the numbers of undetected errors.
http://www.wikiwhat.com/encyclopedia/t/tr/transport_layer.html

The OSI Model, data link layer, 7 layer model
The data between the header and the trailer is passed to layer 3.
When an application on one computer starts communicating with another computer, then the Application layer is used.
A benefit of the seven layer model is that software can be written in a modular way to deal specifically with one or two layers only, this is often called Modular Engineering.

 Introduction to Internet
The data link layer in System B then reads the control information contained in the header prepended by the data link layer in System A. The header is then removed, and the remainder of the information unit is passed to the network layer.
The physical layer and the data link layer are implemented in hardware and software.
At the network layer, for example, an information unit consists of a Layer 3 header and data.

simulating unconfined aquifer as a multi-layer model.
If you see when calibrating that some layer should act more in an unconfined way, what you need to do is to imput as values for your specific storage the same value than specific yield.
This question of confined/unconfined is only for transient simulations because storage is not used in steady-state simulations.
I think that applying a specific yield value for elastic storage in a lower layer of an unconfined aquifer is a dangerous route to take.

Networking Technology - Questy's study guide
The hierarchical layering of protocols on a computer that forms the OSI model is known as a stack.
This layer also manages errors that occur in the upper layers, such as a shortage of memory or disk space necessary to complete an operation, or printer errors.
The Network layer's main purpose is to decide which physical path the information should follow from its source to its destination.

 Data link layer - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
The data link layer is often implemented in software as a "network card driver".
The operating system will have a defined software interface between the data link and the network transport stack above.
The data link is all about getting information from one place to a selection of other places.

 Ozone Layer
As a result of the many concerns that a thinning ozone layer poses to society and the environment, the U.S. government and many international agencies have been relatively active in attempting to monitor, regulate, and solve the problem.
In a sense, the ozone layer can be thought of as a “UV filter” or our planet’s “built in sunscreen” (Geocities.com, 1998).
The depletion of the ozone layer does not come without problems.

 Standard CAD Layer Naming Conventions
In considering updating all of the course CAD files to a different layering system, I encountered a similar dilemma as most offices face at the moment.
In the current version of AutoCAD, the lineweight can now be defined as a drawing entity property, and so the strict adherence to the standard layer colors is not required to produce a correctly plotted drawing.
The student should refer to the Jefferis textbook in Chapter 3 - Applying AutoCAD Tools to Commercial Drawings for an more extensive discussion of AIA Standardized Layer Names.

TheServerSide.NET - The Fallacy of the Data Layer
Service-orientated design leads us to the idea that any software component used by more than one other software component (used by more than one “client”) should be a service.
Over the past few months, in discussing service-orientation (SOA) as well as distributed object-oriented architecture, I have become increasingly convinced that the idea of a data tier, data layer or data storage layer is fundamentally flawed.
In most of my presentations and writing I use a four layer model: UI, business, data access and data storage.

 Boundary Layer
The external flow reacts to the edge of the boundary layer just as it would to the physical surface of an object.
He first proposed the interactively coupled, two layer solution which properly models many flow problems.
Unfortunately, the physical and mathematical details of boundary layer theory are beyond the scope of this beginner's guide and are usually studied in late undergraduate or graduate school in college.

layer - a Whatis.com definition - see also: program layer
In the OSI model, there are seven layers, each reflecting a different function that has to be performed in order for program-to-program communication to take place between computers.
2) In Photoshop and many other graphic applications, a layer is a component in a complex image that consists of multiple layers.
1) In computer programming, layering is the organization of programming into separate functional components that interact in some sequential and hierarchical way, with each layer usually having an interface only to the layer above it and the layer below it.

 layer 2 - a Whatis.com definition
The Data Link layer is concerned with moving data across the physical links in the network.
It also ensures that incoming data has been received successfully by analyzing bit patterns at special places in the frames.
Layer 2 refers to the Data Link layer of the commonly-referenced multilayered communication model, Open Systems Interconnection (OSI).

The Presentation Layer describes the syntax of data being transferred.
Ex: this layer would implement file system operations.
In this model, a networking system is divided into layers.

 Protocol Layer
But it is not very important to assign a clean layer name to ATM, so long as it is recognized that it is a hardware implemented packet switched protocol using 53 byte fixed length packets.
For an ethernet port, the ethernet header is tacked on and the Frame transmitted in ethernet style.
In the OSI reference model, it would be considered layer 2 (where layer 1 is the physical layer and layer 2 is the datalink layer in the internet protocol stack).

 The Transport Layer
Furthermore, all this must be done efficiently, and in a way that isolates the session layer from the inevitable changes in the hardware technology.
The transport header is one place this information could be put.
In other words, a program on the source machine carries on a conversation with a similar program on the destination machine, using the message headers and control messages.

Higher levels of radiation resulting from the depletion of the ozone layer have been linked with increases in skin cancers and cataracts and have been implicated in the decline of certain amphibian species.

A session might be used to allow a user to log into a remote time-sharing system or to transfer a file between two machines.
The session layer allows users on different machines to establish sessions between them.
To eliminate this problem, the session layer provides a way to insert checkpoints into the data stream, so that after a crash, only the data after the last checkpoint has to be repeated.

 Ozone Layer
Well, the main importance of Ozone is that it acts like a sunblock, filtering out the dangerous ultra-violet rays from the sun.
The methane generates more ozone in the tropopause, which is below the stratosphere, and this layer can hide the holes in the stratosphere above it.
Finally, and possibly most worrying is the possibility that in the future the ozone layer will start to let very harmful uv-C rays reach the surface of the Earth.

 Ozone layer - Open Encyclopedia
The ozone layer is that part of the Earth's stratosphere which contains ozone.
The total quantity of ozone in the ozone layer is not very large; if just the ozone were compressed to the pressure of the air at sea level, it would be only a few millimeters thick.
On August 2, 2003, scientists announced that the depletion of the ozone layer may be slowing down due to an international ban on chlorofluorocarbons.
