As a result, it was agreed that the allocation of responsibility would be revised, with the technical aspects being concentrated on the Computing Services at Leeds and Oxford, and the issues of intellectual property and licensing being taken on by Cambridge.
The opportunity was also taken to create two new facilities, a Legal History Room and a Computer Teaching Room, to rearrange the stock into more logical sequences and to move the shelving so that the majority of seating could be provided in the quieter part of the Library, behind the new glass screen.
Library staff also took advantage of courses run by several Departments of the University, including the Assistant Staff Office and the Computing Service.

 NodeWorks - Encyclopedia: Software patent
Software patents and patents on computer-implemented inventions are a class of patents and one of many legal aspects of computing.
Substantive law regarding the patentability of software and computer-implemented inventions, and case law interpreting the legal provisions, are different under different jurisdictions.
Additionally, under the so-called doctrine of equivalents and its analogues, a patent that on its face does not appear to require software can be infringed in certain circumstances if software is used as an equivalent of (that is, to substitute for) a non-software element, making even more difficult to draw the boundary.

The Causeway Project is an indication that we have moved from the first phase of "gee-whizz" appreciation of basic hardware and are now beginning to look at the difficult task of how to orchestrate the hardware and instructional aspects so that our students understand the legal information economy on both a theoretical and practical level.
Athena, by using UNIX, attempts to be the Model-T Ford of computing and allow an almost industrial perspective on University computing - reliable and utilitarian systems which allow all the power of the new, fast UNIX processors.
However, Project Athena - which was funded by both DEC and IBM at MIT- has a system of authentication which it believes will work with up to 10,000 distributed workstations.
