Intel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Intel's market dominance (at one time it controlled over 85% of the market for 32-bit PC microprocessors) combined with Intel's own hardball legal tactics (such as its infamous 338 patent suit versus PC manufacturers) made it an attractive target for litigation, but few of the lawsuits ever amounted to anything.
During the 1990s, Intel's Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) was responsible for many of the hardware innovations of the personal computer, including the PCI Bus, the PCI Express (PCIe) bus, the Universal Serial Bus (USB), and the now-dominant architecture for multiprocessor servers.
Apple initially planned to put Intel chips in all of their computers by the end of 2007[1], but according to Jobs the transition will now be complete by the end of 2006[2].

Intel bullish on technology direction at Fall analysts' meeting
Intel's touts itself as a global brand, ranking fifth in a list of the world's most valuable brands at $33.5 billion, after Coca-Cola, Microsoft, IBM, and GE.
To maintain its rapid pace of processor development, Intel continues to pour dollars into research and development, to the tune of $4.7 billion this year, compared to $3.1 billion five years ago, according to Barrett.
"In addition to our core microprocessors, we will be packaging chip sets, communications and graphics software that will be geared toward one of the four market segments," said Otellini.

Neowin.net > Intel Tanglewood to Consist of Sixteen CPU Cores?
In 2006 or 2007 Intel is expected to release Tanglewood, the monster with up to 16 cores, a lot of cache memory and a high clock-speed.
It is very logical to expect Intel to continue introducing faster and faster 64-bit microprocessors throughout the decade.
As we know, next year Intel is set to launch its Madison 9M code-named processor with 9MB of L3 cache and clock-speed above 1.50GHz.

 Intel Chipsets Excellent, Processors Poor?
In fact, Intel’s 915/925 chipsets would’ve followed the same pattern of excellence, but combined with immature technologies at the time, high performance to price ratio and sub-par performance of its Prescott microprocessors, the platform failed to deliver.
Intel has a long history of producing excellent chipsets.

 Linux - GNOMEUsersWiki
Linux was originally developed for Intel 386 microprocessors and now supports all popular computer architectures (and several obscure ones).
Linux started out as a terminal emulator written in IA-32 assembler and C, which was compiled into binary form and booted from a floppy disk so that it would run outside of any operating system.
Linux and other free software projects have been frequently criticized for not going far enough in terms of ensuring usability, and Linux has been generally considered more difficult to use than Windows or the Macintosh, although it is steadily improving.
