 MOS Technology
The 6502 became the basis for all of MOS Technologies microprocessors.
In 1975, MOS Technology designed the 6502, which was very different than the 6501.
The 6502 dominated the industry in the late seventies and early eighties until the IBM PC and the Intel 8088 "standardized" the industry.

In September of 1983 Jim Butterfield wrote a nice summary of the 6503, 6504, 6505, 6506, 6507, 6509, 6510 (used in the Commodore 64), 6512, 6513, 6514, and 6515 chips for Compute magazine.

Commodore had several interrelated companies, but basically, there was the chip-making operation (MOS Technologies, maker of the KIM-1 single-board computer), and the computer company.
This computer, made by MOS, was created to feature various chips that it had created.
Commodore had very useful computers that were somewhat quirky in design (not physical, but from a system design perspective).

When I started my work at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of California, Berkeley, nobody believed that you could realize analog integrated circuits using MOS technologies (actually, all analog integrated circuits realized at that time were using bipolar technologies).
The paper was a result of my PhD thesis research from 1974 to 1977.

 Mos Technologies 8563
The MOS 8563 was the secondary video chip used in the Commodore 128 home computer for an 80-column display.
The 8563 was a departure from other MOS video chip designs in that it had its own dedicated memory separate from system memory.
Originally intended for a Unix-based business computer that was never released, Commodore International made use of it in several other prototype machines, of which only the C128 was ever released.

 why bipolar for.....??????
As the transconductance of BJT is more than of MOS, in analog ckts where we need more gain we preffer BJT than MOS.
Regarding transconductance BJT is better than MOS only if MOS is in triode region>In saturation where MOS is used for many analog applications i think it has a better tranconductance.

The continuous demand for improved performance in the electronics market has been possible as a result of advances in Si technology.
One option is the use of an advanced material system, such as Si/SiGe.
However, economic and physical constraints render further developments to conventional Si CMOS technology largely unviable and so alternative solutions are sought to allow the continued increase in device performance.

Secret Weapons of Commodore: The TV Game 2000K, 3000H
Hardware A version of the MOS Technologies ("MPS") 7600 (NTSC) or 7601 (PAL) microcontroller with a 512-word internal ROM, unlike other 'Pong-on-a-chip' designs such as the AY-3500 (see below for an explanation of their architecture; virtually all TV Games are probably -7601-001).
Thus, the 7601-001 in the TV Game series, while being programmable in a crude sense, is hardwired to generate the graphics for the TV Game series' internal games only and cannot be coerced into drawing other kinds of shapes.
This distinction is important because the MOS 7600/1's application was not just in the TV Game series but also in the Coleco Telstar Arcade, released in the United States in 1977, where it lurked in its plug-in cartridges and was Coleco's attempt to distinguish itself from the me-too Pong craze.

Novel Materials and Processes for MOS Devices
This work builds upon previous research into MOS transistor scaling issues, to extend it to the investigation of advanced gate materials and novel gate-stack fabrication processes in order to address these specific critical needs for future MOS technologies
Among these is the need for advanced gate-dielectric and gate-electrode materials.
As the dimensions of metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistors are scaled down to 0.1 µm and below in order to achieve continued improvements in integrated-circuit density and performance, a number of new technological issues emerge.
