Many negative things can be said about Mac mini, from not bringing to the user the full advantage of having a desktop computer, inaccessible insides, a minimal to nonexistent internal expandability, no full audio ports, one memory slot, all the way to having a slightly underpowered video card (32MB) for a desktop computer.
The Mac mini has a 256 MB base memory configuration, which can be expanded up to a maximum of 1 GB.
A part of the problem is that most of us can judge a system either as a desktop computer or a notebook computer and adjust our opinions accordingly.
