Apple Macintosh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The final Mac design was self-contained and had far more programming code in read-only memory (ROM) than other computers; it had a non-expandable 128k of RAM.
However, the limitations of the first Mac soon became clear: it had very little memory, even compared with other personal computers in 1984, and could not be expanded easily; and it lacked a hard drive and the means to attach one easily.
Older Mac OS programs can still run under Mac OS X in a special virtual machine called Classic, but this will no longer be possible when Apple switches from the PowerPC architecture to Intel processors in 2007.

DNA From The Mac Gene Pool - Rumor Sites: Good Or Bad For The Mac Community?
Rumor sites should be just that, information based on word of mouth and not information obtained in an illegal or unethical manner.
Rumors themselves, whether right or wrong, can generate enough curiosity and discussion to promote interest in the Macintosh computer system.
Many of those who thought the Rumor sites were good for the Mac, did however think that AppleInsider went too far when it published proprietary information about Adobe's next version of Photoshop, and then refused to take it down at Adobe's request

 Future Mac Rumors??? - ehMac.ca
Pulling Mac on Intel out of the hat would be a huge story though and has lots of potential advantages (since Apple would have to provide on-going support for PowerPC), not only in terms of perception of the MHz gap.
I tell people that have tried to talk me out of a Mac and back in to a Wintel computer "Show me the software that is as easy to utilize as iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD?" I am not so much of a "switcher" as one who is returning home to the flock.
Apple knows this and while they do improve on thier machines, they know the best way to sell Macs is to have "kick-ass" software that highlights its advantages.

But while the 12" and 17" PowerBooks included all the latest interface, processor, and bus improvements, the TiBook was left to languish with "last year's technology." In the face of the even more refined and elegant AlBooks, the TiBook began to look positively dated, an idea that seemed inconceivable a few years earlier.
