Mac OS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The goal of this project was to create a version of Mac OS that would run on Intel-compatible x86 personal computers.
In January 2006, Apple released the first Macintosh computers with Intel processors, an iMac and the MacBook Pro, and in February 2006, Apple released a Mac Mini with an Intel Core Solo and Duo processor.
The initial purpose of this was to avoid using up the limited storage of floppy disks on system support, given that the early Macs had no hard disk.

Apple Macintosh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Macintosh, or Mac, line of personal computers is designed, developed, manufactured, and marketed by Apple Computer.
With the release of Intel-based Macintosh computers, the potential to natively run Windows based operating systems on Apple hardware is introduced, without the need for software such as Virtual PC.
Apple has introduced a number of innovations in direct relation to the Macintosh 128K that were later adopted by the rest of industry as a standard for the design of computers.

APPLE VS MICROSOFT (WINDOWS VS MACINTOSH)
And most of us are cloned in Microsoft Windows (even the so-called computers experts on the net and in the computer magazines).
All those computers users, who used an IBM Microsoft OS clone at work, were buying an IBM Microsoft OS clone for the home, to go on the Internet and get their email.
The computer public was not interested in the Apple Lisa or the Macintosh or even Microsoft Windows until 1991.

ARDI was the next termite (maybe I should allude to the marching ants of a selection marquee instead) with a Unix library that simulates Macintosh ROMs.
NuTek Computers announced that it has completely reverse engineered the Macintosh ROMs (no indication which ones) in a clean-room environment.

Black Enterprise: Send in the clones: Mac-compatibles compete for market share - Apple Computer's Macintosh clones
Power Computing appears to be the leading clone maker, with its PowerWave 604 line.
The new computers have enough speed and power to compete in Macintosh's strongholds of publishing and graphic design.
This raises serious questions about whether or not Apple--which was plagued last year by parts shortages and equipment failures--can meet already backlogged orders and future demand for its computers and operating-system software.

Apple Faces a Showdown With IBM
Part of Apple's problem is that clone makers like Power Computing are often quicker to develop the most powerful -- and most profitable -- computer systems than Apple's own engineers.
IBM does not make and sell Macintosh computers, but instead resells Macintosh software when it sells Power PC processors to other computer makers.
For several months, for example, Power Computing, based in Austin, Texas, has had a 300-megahertz Macintosh ready to bring to market, which would rank among the personal computer industry's fastest machines.

Bill Gates actually urged Sculley to license the Macintosh to other computer manufacturers shortly after its launch in 1984, but he refused and he was not interested in reversing his position because of IBM.
Famously frugal, Kahng made a number of decisions about Power Computing that would propel it to the foreground of the computer industry in general.
Power Computing went on to start a short lived venture in the x86 clone market, but was sued by suppliers for unfulfilled orders, and went out of business in 1997.

 Apple's Role in the Market
For this to work, Apple needs to make it clear that ongoing support will be provided for each technology and it must learn to market not the technology itself (who cares?), but rather the benefits the technology provides to users.
Power Computing is well backed and managed and could be an interesting player all on its own, if you assume (as we do) there is a market for Macintosh clones.

Apple Computer Inc.'s relationship with its two key partners of the past six years -- IBM and Motorola Inc. -- is in disarray, the result of its decision to drastically restrict cloning.
"In 1993, there were 4.3 million 68K processors (the chip used in Macintosh systems before the PowerPC) used in computer systems," said Michael Fiebus, founder of the market research firm Mercury Research in Scottsdale, Ariz. "In 1996, 3.8 million PowerPC processors were used in computers.
Motorola and IBM have been Apple's partners since the trio entered a path-breaking covenant in summer 1991, known as the AIM Alliance, to jointly develop processors and operating systems to combat Microsoft Corp.'s and Intel Corp.'s growing influence.
