Motorola 6809 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 6809E was used in the TRS-80 Color Computer (CoCo), Acorn System 2, 3 and 4 computers and in the CoCo's UK clones, the Welsh-made Dragon 32/64 home computers.
The 6809 was used in Commodore's dual-CPU SuperPET computer, and, in its 68A09 incarnation, in the unique vector graphics based Vectrex home video game console with built-in screen display.
The Hitachi 6309 was an enhanced version of the 6809 with extra registers and additional instructions, including block move, additional multiply instructions, and hardware-implemented division.

 An Overview of Micros
The Motorola 6809 microprocessor found use in the Tandy Color Computer but not in many other microcomputer systems.
Subsequent development by Motorola of the 68000 family provided the second generation 68030, with 256 byte instruction and data caches.
Motorola's 6800 only enjoyed limited success in the Personal Computer (PC) market, with SS-50 bus computer systems made by Smoke Signal Broadcasting and SWTPC (Southwest Technical Products Corp).

Soon every major vendor was releasing a RISC design, including the AT&T CRISP, AMD 29000, Intel i860 and Intel i960, Motorola 88000, DEC Alpha and the HP-PA.
It was these features that allowed the home computer "revolution" to take off in the early 1980s, eventually delivering semi-usable machines that sold for US$99.
Competing projects would result in the IBM POWER and Sun SPARC systems, respectively.

 OS-9 : OS 9
The first version ("level one") was written in assembly language for the Motorola 6809 processor, and provides a single 64K address space in which all processes ran; a later 6809 version ("level two") takes advantage of memory mapping hardware.
OS-9 has had a modular design from the beginning, influenced by the notions of how the designers of the 6809 thought software would be sold in the future as described in a three-part series of articles in Jan-Mar 1979 Byte magazine.
The various versions of OS-9/68000 run on a wide variety of 68000 family platforms, including the Sharp X68000[?] in Japan and some personal computers intended by their designers as upgrades from the Color Computer (e.g.

In the 6809 there are two Stack registers, one of which is always used by the hardware to save JSR and interrupt information, and one of which the programmer can use for other things.
In the 6809 the DP register offered an 8-bit way to access part of the memory; thus the longer and slower 16-bit way of specifying memory locations did not always have to be used.
First examine the rotation operation of the 6809: The Carry flag is always part of the rotation; a bit coming off one end of a byte is moved to Carry by one ROT and moved out of Carry back into a byte by another ROT.

Dragon Data - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
These computers, the Dragon 32/64, strongly resembled the Tandy TRS-80 Color Computer ("CoCo")—both followed a standard Motorola datasheet configuration for the three key components (CPU, SAM and VDG).
However, the Dragon design was complicated by circuitry to convert the US machine's VDG 525-line output (NTSC) to the UK 625-line standard (PAL).
Dragon Data was a Welsh producer of home computers based on the Motorola MC6809E microprocessor, the SN74LS783/MC6883 Synchronous Address Multiplexer (SAM) and the MC6847 Video Display Generator (VDG).

The compiler would be restructured to make it as compatible with Turbo Pascal as possible, allowing system designers to develop algorithms using Turbo Pascal or Delphi, and then porting to the 68HC12.
Although both the 6809 and 680xx compilers are often used to generate code to run under the appropriate version of OS9, there are also extensions designed for ROM based, stand-alone systems, including a "Target-Debugger".
OmegaSoft Pascal was developed starting in 1979 for the Motorola 6809 Processor, the first version being released in 1980, with later releases running on Motorola's MDOS, TSC's FLEX, and Microware's OS9 operating system.
