Mozilla (mascot) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mozilla continued to be used inside Netscape, though, often featuring on T-shirts given to staff or on artwork adorning the walls of the Netscape campus in Mountain View.
When Netscape acquired the website directory NewHoo in 1998, they rebranded it the Open Directory Project with the nickname "dmoz" (Directory of Mozilla) due to its similarility to the Mozilla project.
The name '"Mozilla" was already in use at Netscape as the codename for

Mozilla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mozilla, a product originally aimed at developers instead of end users, now faces the challenge of marketing to the masses.
However, the first release of the rendering engine was far from bug- and crash-free, and even further from being ready for the prime-time, and producing a fully functional web browser required much more than the nascent rendering engine: the Mozilla developers soon envisioned a project more ambitious than a simple web browser.
The Mozilla Foundation also hosts a number of projects not directly related to the Mozilla browser or its development, including several initiatives abandoned by Netscape which have been declared open source.

 Mozilla - a Whatis.com definition
Mozilla was Netscape Communication's nickname for Navigator, its Web browser, and, more recently, the name of an open source public collaboration aimed at making improvements to Navigator.
Mozilla.org is the home of the Mozilla project and you can download the Mozilla source code from this site.
From time to time, Netscape has used Mozilla as the name of a kind of mascot or cartoon alterego created by illustrator Dave Titus.

 Multi-Billion Dollar Theft: Mozilla
This new breed of Netscape browser (version 6 and the new version 7) is based SOLELY on Mozilla's code with extra commercial features that further AOLTW's grip on the Internet.
The Mozilla browser started when Netscape, the maker of the once popular browsers Navigator and Communicator, gave its code to mozilla.org.
Thus, the original code that started the whole Mozilla project from Netscape is the property of a once $165 billion corporation.

Dave Titus On The Missing Green Lizard - MozillaZine Talkback
Mozilla is so cool that it shouldn't be forgotten, in fact I think the Netscape branded versions should use the Mozilla animation (the one in Netscape when you type about:mozilla not the one in the nightly builds) instead of the stars.
In any case, as the browsers will be seperate (Mozilla is a base for the Navigator browser, but also for others) it follows that the images of the two browsers have diverged and will continue to do so.
It seems like the advent of Netscape and the Mozilla software originally went hand in hand with Mozilla the mascot, but since AOL got into the picture all mention of him and the attitude he represented with those dedicated to Netscape was pushed away and sent into the circular file.

What color should Mozilla be in places like the splash screen and icons? - MozillaZine Poll Talkback
Mozilla is the Netscape mascot - and has been long before Mozilla.org.
Here's another good reason why Mozilla should either give up the Mozilla name and become their own non-profit organization or accept the fact that Mozilla is Netscape.
People have always thought of Mozilla and Netscape as interchangable words.

Mozilla comes of age CNET News.com
The next version of Communicator will be mozilla's creation with Netscape's name on it.
With the oversight of mozilla.org, Netscape's browser has gone directly from the Internet's endangered species list to virtual immortality.
The heart of the browser, this software is responsible for interpreting HTML code and rendering it in the browser window.

 the mozilla.org mission
Now, we intend to use the name Mozilla as the generic term referring to internet client software developed through our open source project.
We hope to operate in the "Bazaar" style, and be to the public Netscape source code as Linus Torvalds is to Linux.

 The Mozilla Museum
Here are pages with lots of images that will crash Mozilla in low memory conditions, or will beat the hell out of your internet connection.
One positive feature of IE 3.0 is that the "Copy" function works much better than with Mozilla.
What I liked most is the CTRL-SHIFT-Click feature, this makes it easy to download lots of pages in the background, which I use then reading newspapers on the web.

Mozilla is still used by many Web developers, and it appears in server log files that identify users' browsers.
There are a number of Mozilla easter eggs in Netscape's Navigator product; you can find one if you type "about:mozilla" instead of a URL ;-)
Some people claim that the name is a cross of Mosaic and Godzilla (as in, "the Mosaic killer"), since Mosaic was the number one Web browser at the time Netscape began developing its product.

Encyclopedia Mozilla - a spectral gallery of circa-1995 Mozilla images, shows Netscape's cartoon lizard preening, posing, and being cute.
Even if Netscape's browser share declines to single digits by August, we expect Mozilla will soon play a crucial role in resurrecting Netscape as a successful sweatshirt and stuffed animal manufacturer.
This poor green shlub is clearly oblivious to the fact that invisible Microsoft e-mail memos circulating in the dead of night had already set the exact date and time of his assassination.

 The New Opera Mascot!
Linux has the penguin, BSD the daemon, Mozilla has Mozilla (so cute!), IE has the butterfly (MSN), and Firefox has...
I'd like to see the opera puffin made into some 88x31 buttons, 234x60 half-banners, or 468x60 full-banners sometime soon!
Opera never has had a mascot and will leave it without a mascot most likely.

I also like the dino, but that's not why I use Mozilla.
I mean, do you install Mozilla just because of the mascot?
Since this is the only place to poll things, I decide to ask this.
