 Sample Projects
We present a new approach for designing external graph algorithms and use it to design simple external algorithms for computing connected components, minimum spanning trees, bottleneck minimum spanning trees, and maximal matchings in undirected graphs and multi-graphs.
Computing the strong components of a directed graph is an essential operation for a basic structural analysis of it.
We present an approach for clique and quasi-clique computations in very large multi-digraphs.

AMD Multi-Core: Leading the Industry: Multi-core Technology & Dual-Core Processors from AMD
Multi-core processors represent a major evolution in computing technology.
Symmetrical multi-processing (SMP) has long been a technology used to increase computing performance and efficiency by spreading computing loads across multiple processors.
SMP is especially effective in multi-threaded environments where many tasks (threads) need to be handled simultaneously.

A processor containing multiple cores, leveraging its ability to execute multiple tasks, will offer a higher level of computing power and functionality than the current generation single-core processor.
Licensing Microsoft Software on Multi-Core Processors On October 19, 2004, Microsoft announced that our server software that is currently licensed on a per-processor model will continue to be licensed on a per-processor, and not on a per-core, model.
A: A physical processor is a single chip that houses a collection of one or more processor cores.

Geek.com Geek News - AMD will demo quad-core this year
For those that think multi-core is not very useful on the desktop, you need to stop thinking in terms of the current computing model and UI and start thinking in terms of what it can/will be.
That won't be true after the quad cores are released of course, developers will by them be taking advantage of the benefits multi core processors offer (as they become mainstream) and we'll no doubt see some big improvements.
However, having spent the last 5+ years working on a dual-CPU system, I can tell you that when you have more than one core available, the OS response time is always better, giving you a better "feel" when using the computer.

AMD Targets Quad-Core Microprocessors for 2007 - ap0calypse - The Last Stop in Tech
If the information materializes, chipmaker AMD will push the boundaries of x86 computing further in about three years from now and two years after the company launches its first dual-core product.
“AMD has relatively high confidence in its dual-core product development, given its AMD64 architecture was designed from the ground up to optimize multi-core configurations with its integrated memory controller and HyperTransport features.
Note that the die size (and thus likely cost) for dual-core is likely to be well less that double that of a single-core, given the amount of shared circuitry between the two cores,” said Andrew Root, an analyst for Goldman Sachs.
