 Project Gutenberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Project Runeberg is a similar project for the Nordic language texts, begun in 1992.
Project Gutenberg (PG) was launched by Michael Hart in 1971 in order to provide a library, on what would later become the Internet, of free electronic versions (sometimes called e-texts) of physically existing books.
A project by the National Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts is attempting to produce digital versions of its entire collection of Yiddish books.

Anyway, its made using a Wiki Wiki(Hawaiian for "quick"), a very unique kind of collaboration/content manage system software.

The Mutopia project is an effort to create a library of public domain sheet music, in a way similar to Project Gutenberg's library of public domain books.
Several systems have been developed to do this, including Finale, Sibelius, GNU LilyPond, and GUIDO.

You can edit the resource reference using the input text field labelled ref, or you can drag and drop a file from your computer desktop to the Resource view.
Recall that this will be used as the item label in a Browser window view of the Digital Item.

 Eyes and Ears: A Book of Music for Sight-Singing
A closely related software project is my free ear-training program Clamor.
As noted in the source code, a particular Lilypond file may be from the Mutopia project, and then the editorial work that went into creating that is copyrighted by the person who did the work.
In cases where the Lilypond source code file was entered by me, Ben Crowell, from a public-domain source, I dedicate that particular file to the public domain.

Re: Music Scores on PG Project Gutenberg and Promo.net assume NO responsibility for the contents of the Project Gutenberg Volunteers'Board.
Actually, it was my intention to contact the folks at the Mutopia project, which has an archive of Lilypond and.pdf sheet music, once we get underway; I don't have Lilypond access as I'm on a Macintosh, but the MIDI file would be a great starting point to create a Lilypond file, as I understand it.

Gutenberg has the sheet music subproject and the other large scale project I know of is the Mutopia project which does allow you to browse by composer, instrument and style.
I'm not sure how this compares to archives like the free sheet musci project or some of the other resources available at this location.
