Skeptic's Dictionary: reader comments Loch Ness Monster "Nessie"
During the sonar scan operation, one of the boat operators logged a sonar depth of 812 feet, despite the known fact that the loch is only 748 feet deep.
One photograph is easy to take, granted, but three of the same object is a little harder, especially if there is motion between the pictures (e.g., Nessie [or something] was in a different pose and position each time).
I have just read your piece on the Loch ness monster in the Skeptic's Dictionary, and although I am a Ness investigator and on the "other side" as it were, I think your work was well-written and logically thought out.

The film is used today as the most important piece of evidence in the investigation of the Loch Ness monster.
The monster of Okanagan, referred to as Ogopogo, also seems to be this creature.
Another good theory is that the Loch Ness monster could be an eel.

Burningbird » A Tale of Two Monsters: Nessie
The larger number of sightings of Nessie continued until the advent of World War II turned people’s minds to other monsters, in other places.
There are many creatures that live in our myths and our minds, but the most famous is probably Scotland’s Nessie, or the Loch Ness Monster.
Another research project is being conducted by Dan Scott Taylor and is known as the Nessa Project

 Loch Ness Monster, Nessie
The Loch Ness "monster" -- affectionately known as "Nessie" -- is an alleged plesiosaur-like creature living in Loch Ness, a long, deep lake near Inverness, Scotland.
Even though most scientists believe the likelihood of a monster is small, they keep an open mind as scientists should and wait for concrete proof in the form of skeletal evidence or the actual capture of such a creature.
Boyd and others have exposed as a fake, there are many other photos of Nessie to consider.

This creature is affectionately called "Nessie." The earliest written reference to a monstrous creature in Loch Ness dates to the sixth century when Saint Columba supposedly prevented the monster from devouring a man swimming in the loch.

 Nessie Existence
Science can offer no positive explanation for the sightings, other than optical illusions, misinterpretation of natural phenomena.
It is also valuable to notice that the Nessie story was artificially inflated by a group of interested people.

 Nessie
One of the most famous cryptids in the world is the creature known as the "Loch Ness Monster", or "Nessie" as it is more commonly called.
Sightings are said to have grown since the 1930's when roads were built giving the public more access to the loch.
The most famous photograph of "Nessie", known as the "Surgeons Photograph", was taken by Colonel Robert K. Wilson (http://www.cryptozoology.com/cryptids/nessie.php).

 Nessie
Similar efforts by Operation Deepscan which used a sonar blanket to cover the loch, did obtain several tantalising contacts with large objects underwater, but the objects moved out of the range of sonar so no further investigation into what was causing the sonar images was possible.
Other have posited that Nessie is a salamander or some other gigantic amphibian, a theory which may account for the fact that no monstrous body has vere washed up onthe shores of the Loch.
Serious Nessie believers have reacted fiercely to the notion that the photo was of nothing more than a toy submarine with a plastic/wood monster built atop by sensationalist Marmaduke Wetherall in a bid to get even with those who had earlier perpetrated an embarrassing hoax on the self-proclaimed big game hunter.

Nessie, the Beast of the Loch - Folklore
While research has been conducted at many of these lakes, Loch Ness is the icon for monsters and Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster is, without doubt the grandmother of them all.
Nessie was even given a scientific name "Nessiteras rhombopteryx" named by Sir Peter Scott so that Nessie could be added to the British Register of officially protected wildlife.
It is to Loch Ness where myriad researchers have flocked with their cameras and sonars, webcams and mini submarines, their hopes, fears and dreams of solving the mystery of Nessie.

LOCH NESS MONSTER, Nessie - CoverUps.com
In fact, in the very warm summers of 1933-34, Nessie was seen a lot by people, perhaps due to the heat, which seemed to make the creature less shy.
Toward the end of his life in the early 1970's he wrote two books on the subject.
Intrigued by the horror of people who see Nessie, and similar creatures in Ireland lakes, where an animal couldn't possibly survive, he began to theorize that Nessie-like monsters were merely projections of evil doers who dabble in the black arts.

 Loch Ness Monster
"Nessie" as she is called first is the best known cryptozoological creature in the world.
Nessie's movements have been studied, and the films and photos analyzed to determine what Nessie might be, if she exists.
There are numerous theories as to Nessie's identity, including a snake-like primitive whale known as a zeuglodon, a type of long-necked aquatic seal, giant eels, walruses, floating mats of plants, giant molluscs, otters, a "paraphysical" entity, mirages, and diving birds, but many lake monster researchers seem to favor the plesiosaur theory.

Loch Ness Guide to Nessie the Loch Ness Monster
You have to make up your own mind whether Nessie swims freely through those dark waters or not.
The world famous Loch Ness monster, known affectionately as 'Nessie' by most people and by the scientific believers as Nessiteras rhombopteryx goes back a long, long way, the first recorded sighting being by no less a person than a holy saint.
Later the 'Daily Mail' announced that it was to engage a famous 'big game' hunter to track down Nessie.

 The Cryptozoo Sea Monster Aquarium
The Loch Ness Monster is obviously the most famous aquatic mystery animal in the world, and she is rivaled only by Bigfoot as the best known cryptozoological entity of all time.
It shows what might be considered a blurry appendage of some sort, perhaps a long neck or a flipper, extending from the water.
But most evidence indicates that the Loch Ness Monster did not appear until 1933, at least not as we know her.

Loch Ness Monster: Nessie Hoax Redux; Investigative Files (Skeptical Briefs March 1996)
My impression from a UK perspective is that interest in Nessie has ebbed in a big way since the 1970s, and nowadays people interested in mysteries are far more likely to go in pursuit of crop circles (which from a sociological perspective has many curious parallels with the Loch Ness monster saga).
In those days we all firmly believed that they were genuine photographs and that the monster was indeed a very big animal with a long giraffe-like neck, capable of transforming itself into a three-humped object.
The photos, being fakes and/or models, are always of an object relatively close to the photographer.

If scientists can prove the existence of Nessie's clan who have outlived their contemporaries by some 350 million years, the discovery could be as important to science as Darwinism.
He cites the lack of photo-evidence of Nessie due to the local temperament, local people don't carry around cameras and are fairly blasé about the monster lurking in their loch.
