Bridging (networking) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bridging is a forwarding technique used in packet-switched computer networks.
Transparent bridging refers to a form of bridging "transparent" to the end systems using it, in the sense that the end systems operate in exactly the same way as in a non-bridged network.
Next, the bridges monitor all packets traveling on the network, noting their source addresses, matching these addresses to the interfaces the packets were received on, and recording this information in a table.

Windows XP Bridging and Media Support for Home Networking
A network segment is a portion of a network that shares the same network identifier and is bounded by routers.
There can only be one bridge on a computer, but it may be used to bridge as many different network connections as the computer can physically accommodate.
In a home with multiple computers that have different types of network adapters, such as a few computers on an Ethernet hub and a few computers that use wireless, attempting to connect them together can be a challenge.

Social network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Research in a number of academic fields have demonstrated that social networks operate on many levels, from families up to the level of nations, and play a critical role in determining the way problems are solved, organizations are run, and the degree to which individuals succeed in achieving their goals.
Many social network tools for scholarly work are available online (like "UCINet" or the "network" package in "R") and are relatively easy to use to present graphical images of networks.

 NOVELL: Novell's Networking Primer
For example, there is an IEEE specification for a source-route transparent bridge, a bridging scheme that merges source-route bridging and transparent bridging in one device.
Software-based bridges and routers can also be installed on standard computers to create dedicated, standalone devices.
The devices used to interconnect network segments are divided into three classifications: bridges, routers, and gateways.

Lantronix Switching Tutorial: Server Switches, Congestion and Network Capacity
Segmenting, where a network is divided into different pieces joined together logically with switches or routers, reduces congestion in an overcrowded network by eliminating the shared collision domain.
In real world networks, crowded segments cause many problems, so their impact on switch consideration is not important for most users, since networks should be designed to eliminate crowded, congested segments.
As networking technology evolves, multilayer switches are likely to replace routers in most large networks.

 Bridging and IBM Networking Overview
A source-route bridge uses the RIF in the IEEE 802.5 MAC header of a datagram (see Figure 4) to determine which rings or Token Ring network segments the packet must transit.
While concurrent routing and bridging makes it possible to both route and bridge a specific protocol on separate interfaces within a router, the protocol is not switched between bridged and routed interfaces.
The basic component of an SNA network, subarea or APPN, is the network addressable unit (NAU).

Connected: An Internet Encyclopedia - Bridging
Transparent bridging, the type used in Ethernet and documented in IEEE 802.1, is based on the concept of a spanning tree.
Transparent bridging is used in Ethernet environments and relies on switching nodes.
Each bridge finds such information by monitoring source addresses of packets, and matching them with the interfaces each was received on.
