New General Catalogue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The NGC is one of the largest comprehensive catalogues, as it includes all types of deep sky objects (not specialised to just galaxies for instance).
The New General Catalogue (NGC) is the most well-known catalogue of deep sky objects in amateur astronomy.
The NGC contained many errors which have for the most part been eliminated by the Revised NGC.

An NGC entry was accepted if an appropriate object was found to lie within a radius of 5' of the original published position.
Collinder (1931) describes NGC 2527 as consisting of 40 stars in an area measuring 25' x 20' in PA 40° with an integrated magnitude of 8.5.
Since the Herschel's descriptions for NGC 1242-3 match ("eF, stellar" and "eF, round") they might refer to one object.

A full list of the abbreviations can be found in Table II of the introduction to the published catalog (see References) or in the CDS ReadMe file for the originating table (ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/cats/VII/118/ReadMe).
This parameter contains the object name in the form "NGC nnnn" for NGC objects and "IC nnnn" for IC objects, where "nnnn" indicates the sequence number of the object within the particular catalog.

NGC 6993 - The object is declared as "not found" in the RNGC and so the type is "-" in Sinnott's book.

General Catalogue of Variable Stars: What's new.
Apart from a complete update of the positional information, the new version incorporates all the other corrections that were found to be necessary after the first GCVS volume was published (1985).
The first approach to this project has resulted in improved equatorial positions (B1950, J2000) for variable stars in the constellation of Andromeda, including the stars from the GCVS proper plus the stars from the subsequent Name-lists, with a new standard of positional accuracy, to 1 second of arc.
The version also includes a file of remarks to the first GCVS volume and a preliminary version of the file of bibliographic references to the entire fourth edition of the GCVS.

Splendid Magazine reviews Redjetson: New General Catalogue
The only problems -- and they certainly aren't damning ones -- are that singer Clive Robert Kentish sounds a bit uncomfortable with several of the notes he attempts to hit, and that ultimately, no matter how good the group's derived sound turns out, it inevitably struggles in comparison to EITS's better-honed masterpieces.
That's why New General Catalogue is a pleasurable listen, but certainly not an essential purchase.
Tellingly, the group's finest moment is the one that diverges most from those of its forbears; "Divorce", New General Catalogue's opener, is a elegant, beautifully melodic, slyly damaged suite of slowly evolving hooks and progressions.
