Note that this is one place where OSDL has been genuinely useful: They have done a lot to counter the SCO FUD, by publishing critical legal analyses by Lessig and Moglen, and making press-releases about these to ensure mainstream IT news (those press-release regurgitators) also notice.

 LinuxWorld SF: OSDL announces Patent Commons project - Computerworld
The group said software patents are a huge potential threat to the ability of people to work together on open source.
Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs said earlier this year when he announced the company's transition to Intel chips that his company would work to prevent its fabled Mac OS from being installed on non-Apple-built machines....
It will also collect other legal items, such as indemnification programs offered by vendors of open-source software, the group said.

 Microsoft Woos OSDL for New Linux Offensive
Microsoft has once again stirred up a hornets nest in the open-source community, this time approaching the OSDL (Open Source Development Labs) to work with it on a joint, independent research project to do some facts-based analysis of Linux and Windows.
While some in the Linux and open-source community have questioned why the large Linux vendors have not responded to Microsoft Corp.'s aggressive "Get the Facts campaign," which uses mostly Microsoft-sponsored analyst reports to compare and contrast Windows Server with Linux, they would be unlikely to support any joint partnership with Microsoft.
The kicker is that Microsoft has also offered to pay for half of the funding costs for a joint research project should the OSDL agree to this.

OSDL's Lab Activities such as Carrier Grade Linux or Data Center Linux have requirements over Linux system.
DOUBT is project to create set of system invalidation checking programs.
But there does not seems to be a way to validate whether system really do meets requirement.
