Topic: RSS (protocol)

RSS (file format) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
RSS 0.91 is the simplified RSS version released by Netscape, and also the version number of the simplified version championed by Dave Winer from Userland Software.
For example, the RSS 2.* branch was the first to support enclosures, making it the current leading choice for podcasting, and as of mid-2005 is the format supported for that use by iTunes and other podcasting software; however, an enclosure extension is now available for the RSS 1.* branch, mod_enclosure [16].
RSS 0.90 was the original Netscape RSS version.

Talk:RSS (file format) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are sites that provide modules for getting RSS feeds to display on your website, but they are either buggy, or require knowledge of databases, or only explain what to do, not how to do, none of which I'm able to figure out.
In "Usage," added references to newspapers and wire services using RSS; moved up the reference to blogs using RSS for full text, not just summaries, and the relation of blogs to multimedia.
While the technical details are helpful in understanding the "how," non-techies may want to know the why first.

 [No title]
RSS is an information gathering system where software either on your desktop, or via a web site, polls websites looking for updates on published information.
Some of the biggest generators of RSS are online newspapers, which typically have several RSS “feeds” or lists of pages, corresponding to the different categories of information they publish.
Since RSS readers flag the new items, the reader doesn’t even need to wonder whether they’ve read this item before or not, the technology takes care of that for them.

BitTorrent protocol to serve RSS feeds? - Topic Ars OpenForum
The idea could be good, but I think it'd have to be a new protocol rather than strapped on the back of BT.
I'm pie-in-the-sky thinking right now, and thought about how RSS is becoming a victim of its own success, and bandwidth usage for RSS feeds is spiking unexpectedly.
The idea would be to digitally sign each syndicated item so that they could be passed around freely in a peering network.
