 Generative Representations for Design Automation
Non-generative representations are limited in their ability to scale to complex structures because of the exponential growth in the size of the design space and the increasing number of dependencies in a design.
Explicit, generative representations are a procedural approach in which a design is explicitly represented by an algorithm for constructing it.
The reason an explicit, generative representation is used is that GENRE can be applied to different types of designs (eg solid objects, robots, neural networks, computer programs,...) by changing only the set of construction commands and the design constructor.

 Mental Representations: Entry
In this network, the input activation vector is a representation of the echo profile, and the activation of the two output nodes represents the presence of a mine or a rock, respectively.
Representation tokens are usually thought of as members of a general scheme of representation.
Thus the connectionist use of superpositional representation has initiated a re-evaluation of representation in general by positing questions such as ‘Are representations distinct from processes of inference?,’ and ‘Might different kinds of representation permit different kinds of cognition?’.

An Approach to Analyzing Existing Process Representations
As mentioned earlier, the goal of the second phase of the PSL project is to analyze existing process representations to identify the constructs and characteristics of these representations which address the information requirements found in the first phase of the project.
Once the representation analysis phase of the project is completed and a suitable process representation is determined, we will proceed to the subsequent phases, namely: schema definition, language grammar/syntax development, language notation(s) development, pilot implementation and validation, and finally, submission as a candidate standard.
These representations, although not analyzed directly, were found to play a supporting role in the other twenty-six representations that were analyzed.

 Standards for School Mathematics: Representation
Representations allow students to communicate mathematical approaches, arguments, and understanding to themselves and to others.
The integration of technology into mathematics instruction further increases the need for students to be comfortable with new mathematical representations.
It is important to encourage students to represent their mathematical ideas in ways that make sense to them, even if those representations are not conventional.

Autodesk - Autodesk Inventor - Controlling Positional Representations
We have now created a positional representation in the top assembly, which has no overrides, so it looks just like the master positional representation.
By creating overrides on such items as constraint values or component placements, multiple positional representations can be created, each capturing different solve states for an assembly.
Use positional representations to evaluate alternate kinematics states of an assembly.

 Exploring Multi-Layered Representations in Research
These representations reflect understandings that show a continuum of the taken-for-granted to critically perceived.
Students often cite the calendar project in their course evaluations as their most significant accomplishment in the teacher education program.
One could, without the explanatory booklet, perceive that this deck of cards is a calendar.

NIPS Workshop: Overcomplete Representations and Nonlinear ICA
There is also a link between overcomplete representations and efficient sensory coding in the brain which shows the vitality of the emerging new perspectives.
We anticipate talks on advanced topics in overcomplete representations, mixture models, nonlinear independent component analysis, information theoretic coding, image understanding, speech modeling, and pattern recognition using overcomplete representations.
A popular method for learning data representations is Independent Component Analysis (ICA).

These various yet related definitions are all implicated in the public debates about representation.

JBG: Personal Knowledge and Collective Representations
In conclusion, the evolutionary significance of collective representations is that they dramatically reduce what each of us must learn while at the same time providing access to a much greater store of wisdom than we possibly can learn.
The primary function of drink names, independent of their linguistic form, is to establish an unambiguous, 1-to-1 referential relation -- a publicly-known semiotic code -- whereby customers can ask for a particular potent potable and be reasonably assured of getting what they asked for.
"Collective representations" were born -- ways of communicating about activities and surroundings, ways of making explicit previously implicit mutual understandings.
