ResEdit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of ResEdit's most powerful features (which first appeared with ResEdit version 2.0), is the ability to define arbitrary data structures as resources using a simple template building feature.
dialog box using the stored resource data which will match the appearance you laid out in ResEdit.

 mac.org
ResEdit is probably the most used tool/utility in the world of programming.
Be careful though, if you don't know how to use this utility written by Apple, you probably don't want to mess with the original copies of files you edit or you will probably end up with a unusable file.
It is used to manipulate and create resource forks and can also be used to extract pictures, text, icons etc. that may by in a program's resource fork.

 [20040326] RESEDIT COMPLETE 2ND EDITION
Peter Alley, a senior software engineer and programmer at Apple Computer, Inc., was the Project Leader and codesigner of ResEdit version 2.1, responsible not only for designing and programming the main features of ResEdit but also for integrating all of the new version's functions.
The disk can be used on the entire Macintosh family of computers running system software 6.0 and later.
This amazing program allows you to customize your desktop, interface, and software.

 Petition to opensource resedit
Beyond that, an open-source resedit makes things no more difficult for apple than closed, and having it open would allow people to create things with the source code apple possibly couldn't have done on its own, as well as helping learning developers by giving them example code.
...ResEdit 3.0 was the "from ground up" rewrite of ResEdit for Copland (although it should be useful on MacOS 8/X as well).
But really the point here is that creating Open Source Software is something apple should seriously consider, especially for its developer utilities.

 ResEdit.Scrap
If you're going to modify MacLynx in a resource editor, you might want to dump this page into a plain text-file, so you can refer to it while MacLynx is open as a document [for safety reasons, the system and ResEdit won't let applications run while they're open for editing].
The TMPL resources are identical between files, so there's no need to replace them [no harm in it though: Select All is easier than carefully selecting only the resources you need].
And test the results carefully before you chuck the originals.

cupertino.de Archive Easter Eggs Programmierung: ResEdit
If you turn on pig mode, while running ResEdit from a floppy disk, the computer will "oink" a few times each second (most easily heard on an old Plus in a quiet room).
This was before later versions of Microsoft Word (6.0 and above) were released and did this better.
ResEdit is Apple's Freeware Utility (that has been around as long as the Mac) to enable programmers and others to alter Resources.

 ResEdit 2.1.3 - MacUpdate
Just remember to heed all the warnings about editing a file's resources; otherwise you could damage your system.
Add that to the SuperResEdit package, and you've got yourself Resedit 2.4.3+ (I would consider mine 2.9.7).
If you really want to make your Mac more personal, resource editingÑthe art of hacking at icons, fonts, cursors, sounds, windows, and other items recurrently called upon by a programÑis the way to go, and ResEdit is just the tool to help you do so.

Macintosh Security Site -> StaticUsers.net - ResEdit for Security
NOTE: if this software is improperly used, it is possible to incur data loss and/or render your Macintosh computer unusable, thus requiring you to reinstall the Mac OS ResEdit WebSite :
This can render insecure a 'secure' computer because a user can change resources within an application, or open a 'security' application and look for the password resources.
ResEdit is an Apple product and is currently at version 2.1.3.

With ResEdit, skin/logon/shellstyle designers have a simple way to alter alpha mask bitmaps in a resource file.
ResEdit auto-converts 32 bit BMPs to PNGs and back so you can edit the 8 bit alpha mask in your favorite editor.

ResEdit (was: OutLook Express ListBox look a like)
Both are in early stages, and both were incredibly buggy last I checked, but I think that in time one might finally bump ResEdit right off my Mac (REALbasic was "incedibly buggy" when I first used it too, and now I use it every day).
I agree that Resourcerer's interface sucks, but ResEdit is no gem of interface design either.

 Your Multilingual Mac
Here are some instructions for editing a kchr resource and this site has similar instructions in French.
You can also modify such keyboards using the ResEdit program.
For non-Unicode scripts, you can take an existing keyboard from OS9, rename it as a.rsrc file, and put it into /Library/Keyboard Layouts/.

 Patching HD SC Setup 7.3.5
I have picked this one since it patches HD SC Setup 7.3.5 (which is the latest version, found to work well with SCSI Manager 4.3), using ResEdit 2.1.3 by altering just one (!) byte.
Using ResEdit can and will cause damage to your programs and/or data if not properly used.
When you have followed these instructions, the saved HD SC Setup 7.3.5 should be able to recognize, initialize (format and install drivers) and test your drive.

VIRUS-L/comp.virus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) v2
You don't have to know what all the numbers mean, only that they have changed *unexpectedly*.
Mac users have "info" options, which give some indication of memory use, but may need ResEdit to supply more detailed information.
If you run Windows on your PC and you suddenly start getting messages at Windows startup that 32-bit Disk Access cannot be used, this often indicates your PC has been infected by a boot-sector virus.
