Seymour Cray - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cray quickly came to be regarded as an expert on digital computer technology, especially following his design work on the ERA 1103, the first commercially successful scientific computer.
Cray had always resisted the massively parallel solution to high-speed computing, offering a variety of reasons that it would never work as well as one very fast processor.
Cray set up a new company, SRC Computers, and started the design of his own massively parallel machine.

 Seymour Cray - Wikipedia

Seymour Cray worked there on the Cray-3 project, the first attempt at major use of gallium arsenide (GaAs) semiconductors in computing.
Cray went on to form the spin-off Cray Computer Corporation (CCC), in 1989, which went bankrupt in 1995, while Cray Research was bought by SGI the next year.
The company's predecessor, Cray Research, Inc. (CRI), was founded in 1972 by computer designer Seymour Cray.

 Tribute to Seymour Cray
Barely a year and a half after Seymour joined the company, he was regarded as an expert on digital computer technology and was made project engineer of the successful 1103 computer.
By 1970, Seymour had been directly responsible for the design and development of the systems that were to shape the high performance computer industry for years to come.
Seymour followed the CRAY-1 with the CRAY-2, the first computer to provide an order of magnitude increase in central memory size.

Seymour Cray's gone, but not forgotten
After working as a team member on two computers at ERA Cray was given the task of designing the next computer, the 1103.
Cray had contact with Von Neumann but with computing was in its infancy, many problems had not been explored and he had to rely on his own research and invention.
In 1995 Seymour Cray started a new business named, SRC Computers, with an aim to continue his work in supercomputing.

 Seymour Cray - Wikipedia
