Topic: Software library

NodeWorks - Encyclopedia: Library (computer science)
In computer science, a library is a collection of subprograms used to develop software.
Libraries are distinguished from executables in that they are not independent programss; rather, they are "helper" code that provides services to some other independent program.
Library linking describes the inclusion of one or more of these software libraries into a new program.

Creating Reusable Software Libraries LG #81
Software libraries targeted for Linux are usually available in both binary and source code form.
If no one will need the functionality you are developing, or a software library implementing it already exists, don't create a new library.
The first step in creating a software library is designing its interface.

 NERSC Math Software Libraries
NAG SMP Library is a library of Fortran 77 routines optimised for use on Symmetric Multi-processor (SMP) machines which are multi-processor platforms with a shared memory (such as a single node of the SP).
WSMP The Watson Sparse Matrix Package, is a high-performance, robust, easy to use software package for solving large sparse systems of linear equations using a direct method on serial and multiprocessor workstations and on distributed-memory parallel computers with serial or multiprocessor nodes.
Compared to the "other" general library, IMSL, NAG usually considered to be stronger in optimization.

Overview of Mathematical and Statistical Software Libraries
The collection is maintained to provide NCAR's computer users with software to assist them in their computational efforts on NCAR computers.
Although copies are maintained at NCAR for convenient reference, it is recommended that users obtain official source code from netlib, except for the six math libraries developed at NCAR.
Savvy users will note that many of the libraries mentioned below are available from the netlib facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

 Open Source Software for Libraries
OSS is essential if libraries are to develop software and systems that meet their patrons' needs.
The meeting was convened to consider how to assess various claims made for open-source software and, if appropriate, to identify steps to move OSS activity into the mainstream of digital library development in a manner that might appeal to all sectors of the library community.
It is therefore largely inaccessible to the many libraries and library system departments that require plug-and-play software that is well documented and supported and can be easily installed (and uninstalled).

Open Source Software in libraries / Eric Lease Morgan
This guide is an introduction to open source software in libraries, with descriptions of a variety of software packages and successful library projects.
Since the software is almost always in a state of flux, developers need some sort of version control software to help manage the project's components.
If computer software is intended to make our lives easier, you can evaluate the use of the software and see what sorts of things can be eliminated or how resources can be reallocated in order to run operations more efficiently.

Wilkinson was a seminal figure in modern numerical analysis as well as a key proponent of the notion of reusable, common libraries for scientific computing, and we are especially honored to receive this award in his memory.
We believe that FFTW, which is free software, should become the FFT library of choice for most applications.

 The Censorware Page
Blocking software which screens out sites based on their inclusion in a database of impermissible sites, or blocks them based on the occurrence of banned words or phrases, is effectively removing these resources from the library.
A site may be scanned for keywords by a software "spider" and then reviewed by a human being, or a human being may look at the site as a matter of first instance after hearing about it from another source or finding it in a search engine.
The installation of blocking software by libraries constitutes an unconstitutional removal of materials from the library.

About: Userful Desktop Multiplier is software that turns one computer into ten using extra video cards, keyboards, and monitors.
In his book "Integration-Ready Architecture and Design", Jeff Zhuk states that today's software engineering practices suffer from one serious drawback: the non-reuse of common algorithmic knowledge.
It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional languages including mixins, algebraic datatypes with pattern matching, genericity, and more.

 PLIB: A Portable Games Library.
Each library component is fairly independent of the others - so if you want to use SDL, GTK, GLUT, or FLTK instead of PLIB's 'PW' windowing library, you can.
Unlike the many similar libraries, PLIB is easy to learn and use - and has an object-oriented C++ interface.
I (and an ever increasing band of helpers) have been spending time to build a set of OpenSource (LGPL) libraries that will permit programmers to write games and other realtime interactive applications that are 100% portable across a wide range of hardware and operating systems.
