Speech recognition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Speech recognition technologies allow computers equipped with a source of sound input, such as a microphone, to interpret human speech, for example, for transcription or as an alternative method of interacting with a computer.
Speech recognition is also used for speech fluency evaluation and language instruction.
Speech recognition system are based on simplified stochastic models, so any aspects of the speech that may be important to recognition but are not represented in the models cannot be used to aid in recognition.

 Speech Recognition
Speech recognition to enhance computer access for children and young adults who are functionally non-speaking.
Finally, a similar study by Treviranus, Shein, Haataja, Parnes and Milner (1991) examined the use of speech recognition in combination with scanning to increase the rate of computer input by individuals who are functionally non-speaking.
At present, for speech recognition to be successful with dysarthric speakers, Coleman and Meyers indicate a need for adjustments to be made to the input signal or the instrumentation of the recognition system.

speech recognition & speaker biometrics - J. Markowitz, Consultants
Sometimes this is used to refer to speech recognition systems that process "conversational speech" even if they do not use artificial intelligence.
speaker independent speech recognition can be used by people who have not first enrolled with a system or otherwise trained it to recognize their speech.
speaker dependent speech recognition cannot be used effectively by a speaker until that speaker has trained every word in the system.

How to Build a Speech Recognition Circuit Page 1
This is an attractive approach to speech recognition for computers because the speech recognition chip operates as a co-processor to the main CPU.
Currently most speech recognition systems available today are programs that use personal computers.
In the near future, speech recognition will become the method of choice for controlling appliances, toys, tools, computers and robotics.

 Speech Recognition
Speech recognition is a difficult problem, largely because of the many sources of variability associated with the signal.
When speech is produced in a sequence of words, language models or artificial grammars are used to restrict the combination of words.
Speech recognition systems attempt to model the sources of variability described above in several ways.

 Speech Recognition HOWTO
Speech recognition is the process by which a computer (or other type of machine) identifies spoken words.
Speech recognition systems can be separated in several different classes by describing what types of utterances they have the ability to recognize.
Automated Speech Recognition (ASR or just SR) on Linux is just starting to come into its own, and I hope this document gives it a push in the right direction - by supporting both users and developers of ASR technology.

Salon Technology Talking 'bout a computer revolution
Speech recognition technology promises to transform how we interact with computers -- or turn us all into mindless gibbering automatons.
The market for speech technology has more than doubled in the last two years -- speech-recognition software sales in 1997, according to research firm PC Data, hovered around the 200,000-unit mark; in 1999 so far, more than 522,000 units have already been sold.
To be blunt, the four days I spent testing voice-recognition software programs added up to perhaps one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had with a computer.
