Superuser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On many computer operating systems, superuser is the term used for the special user account that is controlled by the system administrator.
To run a program as a superuser in Windows XP and probably later versions of Windows, use the command runas.
Windows NT In Windows NT and later systems derived from it (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista), there may or may not be a superuser.

 Superuser is System Manager
On UNIX this special user is known as superuser or root (not to be confused with the root directory).
Superuser (aka "root") is the UNIX System Manager
This meaning of root should not be confused with the alternate meaning of root as the UNIX system manager (that is, superuser).

[Chapter 1] 1.24 The Superuser (Root)
Historically, UNIX systems have tended to be very lax: at many sites, all the users know the superuser password and don't hesitate to use it whenever they have the slightest problem.
Someone has to be able to kill runaway programs, modify the system's files, and so on.
People can read each other's mail, trample all over each other's files, scribble on disks by accident, or mail all of the company's proprietary documentation to a competitor (and delete the log files so there's no record that they did it).

Toor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Unix, it is traditional to keep the root filesystem as small as reasonably possible, moving larger, fancier programs and rapidly-changing data to other, optional parts of the system.
In a Unix-like system, each user has a user ID number, which is what the kernel uses to distinguish users and to manage user permissions.
This is valuable, since if the system administrator did not intend for a second superuser account, then it may mean that the system has been compromised.

This is because the superuser, unlike normal user accounts, can operate without limits, and misuse of the superuser account may result in spectacular disasters.
User accounts are unable to destroy the system by mistake, so it is generally best to use normal user accounts whenever possible, unless you especially need the extra privilege.
So, the first thing you should do after reading this chapter is to create an unprivileged user account for yourself for general usage if you have not already.
