The distance to it is much more difficult to measure than the distance to (for example) Taub> Ceti, but it is about 8 kiloparsecs or 26,000 light-years.

Taub> Ceti achieved its true fame in 1960, when Frank Drake initiated "Project Ozma," an attempt to detect intelligent signals from space and the opening salvo in modern SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
